[News] FilmQuest Announces 10th Anniversary Fest Line-Up

FilmQuest, one of the largest genre festivals in the world and one of MovieMaker Magazine’s “25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World” in 2023, has announced its landmark 10th Anniversary lineup. The 2023 festival is headlined with projects from and featuring Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, F. Javier Gutiérrez, Bella Ramsey, Charlie Day, Seth Green, Adam F. Goldberg, Mena Suvari, Sonya Walger, Kelly Marie Tran, Eddie Griffin, Paul Urkijo Alijo, Mathieu Turi, and more.

Over 300 films are programmed at the festival, which includes feature films and short films from 31 nations showcasing the industry’s hottest and best up-and-coming genre filmmaking talent. The festival runs from October 26 – November 4 in Downtown Provo, Utah. It is a hybrid event with live screenings and events taking place at Velour Live, complimented with virtual screenings on the upstart EO (Entertainment Oxygen) App.

“Each year, FilmQuest continues to firmly establish itself as one of the world’s great genre film festivals,” said Festival Founder & Director Jonathan Martin. “With what has become in particular the most diverse and exciting lineup of quality genre shot film programming available at any festival on the planet, we welcome the industry to discover the incredible talent we put on full display who are waiting to be represented and are destined to shape the genre film markets for years to come.”

Special guests of the festival who will be participating in filmmaking labs include Doug Jones (“Star Trek: Discovery, The Shape of Water), Academy Award winning makeup fx artist Joel Harlow (Star Trek, Black Panther), Emmy-nominated costume designer Shawn Trpcic (The Mandalorian, Ahsoka), composer Chris Bacon (“Wednesday,” “Bates Motel”), and others.

Among the many highlights from the program includes F. Javier Gutiérrez’s (Rings) folk horror The Wait, Paul Urkijo Alijo’s (Netflix’s Errementari: The Blacksmith and the Devil) dark fantasy Irati, Mathieu Turi’s thriller The Deep Dark, Mark H. Rappaport’s absurd comedy Hippo produced by Danny McBride and David Gordon Green, the Mena Suvari and Eddie Griffin starring horror comedy All You Need is Blood from Cooper Roberts, and The Star Wars Holiday Special documentary tell-all A Disturbance in the Force from Jeremy Coon (Napoleon Dynamite) and Steve Kozak.

The event will conclude with an audiovisual awards show on November 4th, with the presentation of the coveted Cthulhu Trophy to winners in feature film, short film, student film, animation, and music video categories.
