[Video Interview] Mark Burg and Oren Koules for SAW X

On September 29th, SAW X, the 10th installment of the SAW franchise, is set to hit theaters. Spanning a lineage of 19 years, the SAW franchise stands out as one of the horror genre’s giants, celebrated for its remarkable success. While the franchise has seen its share of underwhelming entries over the years, it consistently manages to draw fans back with its gruesome and visceral blend of torture and gore.

In SAW X, John Kramer returns in the flesh as he ventures to Mexico in hopes of receiving a miracle cure for cancer. Unlike previous films, SAW X delves even deeper into who John Kramer is, offering audiences a chance to know more about the person behind the Jigsaw persona while also recapturing the essence of the original film that started it all.

For the upcoming release of SAW X, Nightmarish Conjurings’ Shannon McGrew spoke with producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules. During the interview, they discussed everything from bringing back Tobin as an anti-hero, dealing with the challenges of COVID, and what fans should be excited for most about the latest installment.

About SAW X

Set between the events of SAW and SAW II, a sick and desperate John travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer – only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Armed with a newfound purpose, John returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through a series of ingenious and terrifying traps.

The film features the return of Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith, and also features Synnøve Macody Lund (The Girl in the Spider’s Web), Steven Brand (The Scorpion King), Octavio Hinojosa (“How to Survive Being Single”), Paulette Hernandez (My Demons Never Swore Solitude), Michael Beach (Aquaman) and Renata Vaca (Dreamer).

From Lionsgate and the producers of Saw and Spiral, SAW X is directed by Kevin Greutert (Saw VI, Saw 3D), from a script by Josh Stolberg (Jigsaw, Spiral) and Pete Goldfinger (Jigsaw, Spiral). The film is produced by Mark Burg and Oren Koules.
