Got a hankering for some good ol’ Beetlejuice fun? Say his name three times and you got yourself a party, especially once you whip out THE UNOFFICIAL BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE COOKBOOK. Featuring more than 75 recipes inspired by Tim Burton’s classic as well as the Beetlejuice animated series (remember that series?), and the Broadway musical, there’s plenty to work from to help you craft the nosh party of your spoopy little poltergeist dreams! While some recipes may require some zhuzhing up to hit the visual Beetlejuice flair, Thea James and Isabel Minunni have crafted a fun, delightful cookbook that features recipes doable enough for the 9 and up crowd.
Whether you’re planning to host a brunch, a casual movie night, or a dessert bonanza, James and Minunni have crafted enough recipes for whatever mealtime you’re gunning for. The desserts section, in particular, gives peak Beetlejuice vibes. Though, if you’re abysmal at chocolate work like I am, definitely drag someone into the kitchen to supervise your chocolate melting. Or else it’ll look like Beetlejuice gave a little sinister sneeze into your pot. This particular note is more towards parents with kids wanting to tackle desserts or amateur cooks like moi.
If you’re someone that requires visuals to guide them, THE UNOFFICIAL BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE COOKBOOK boasts staged food photos for each recipe. You heard it here – each recipe. The photos are impeccable and are incredibly helpful in giving a visual idea of how the recipes should look. If you’re someone that needs more in-your-face level of theming, some recipes featured might not hit the mark for you. However, part of the magic and joy of cooking is figuring out how to decorate and apply your own flair.
THE UNOFFICIAL BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE COOKBOOK inspires
Speaking of those photos, sometimes there will be little fun facts or helpful tips featured in the image. Whether it’s learning about proper pepper handling or a behind-the-scenes tidbit, it adds a little special something when those pop up. It also allows certain tidbits not to go unmissed (see, again…proper pepper handling.)
Each recipe features a description before diving into the recipe itself. Sometimes we get a scene description or a behind-the-scenes factoid that may surprise fans. To give an example, I was surprised to discover that a sequel was in the works titled Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. That little nugget was featured on one of the recipe pages.
The recipes themselves are simple and easy enough to follow. If you’re completely new to cooking, you may still require some assistance. For the most part, the recipes themselves are easy enough that I’d have no problem recommending them to 9-year-olds and up to try out.
THE UNOFFICIAL BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE COOKBOOK is a fun cookbook to dive into for both casual and hardcore fans of the diabolical poltergeist. The recipes give enough wiggle room to add your own twist to them. Featuring gorgeously staged photographs of each recipe, it’s a cookbook I recommend for almost all ages.
