![[News] Academy Museum Celebrates Dick Smith with Limited Horror Screenings](https://www.nightmarishconjurings.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/scanners.jpg)
Having started on July 20th, the Academy Museum has launched a limited screening series focusing on legendary makeup artist Dick Smith. For horror fans, you likely know him for his work on films like The Exorcist, Scanners, The Hunger, and more.
Originally, as highlighted by the Academy Museum website, Richard Emerson Smith aka Dick Smith was planning on becoming a dentist. Clearly, that did not happen based on his career-long trajectory in film. Starting in 1945, Smith became involved in TV in its beginning days, heading the Makeup Department at WNBC-TV until the late 1950s. This experience proved to be monumental in helping him develop the skills that we’d see him showcase in future film work.
This limited set of screenings launches alongside the Academy Museum’s current special gallery attraction, The Art of Moviemaking: The Godfather, on view through January 5, 2025. Highlighting the work Smith did on The Godfather, maybe you can catch that gallery before heading into the movie of your choice.
