Horror can mean many different things to many different people. For some, it’s the supernatural. For others, it’s found footage or a zombie apocalypse. And for others, it’s the horror of what people are capable of doing to others. In John Logan‘s feature directorial debut, he shows just how insidious and horrific it can be when people force their beliefs on others in his LGBTQIA+ slasher flick, THEY/THEM.

For the release of THEY/THEM, Nightmarish Conjurings’ Shannon McGrew spoke with actors Theo Germaine and Austin Crute as well as executive producer Scott Turner Schofield, where they discussed everything from the importance of having the correct representation on screen to rocking out to Pink’s “Fuckin’ Perfect” during the films musical interlude.

In THEY/THEM, several queer and trans campers arrive at Camp Whistler, a gay conversion camp run by Owen Whistler (Kevin Bacon), for a week of programming intended to “help them find a new sense of freedom.” As the camp’s methods become increasingly more psychologically unsettling, the campers must work together to protect themselves. When a mysterious killer starts claiming victims, things get even more dangerous.

THEY/THEM is the feature directorial debut from John Logan and stars Kevin Bacon (You Should Have Left), Anna Chlumsky (“Veep”), Carrie Preston (“True Blood”), Theo Germaine (“The Politician”), Quei Tann (“Dear White People”), Austin Crute (Booksmart), Monique Kim (“What/If”), Anna Lore (Doom Patrol), Cooper Koch (Swallowed) and Darwin Del Fabro (“Dangerous Liaisons”).
