After watching the slick and modern thriller DREAMCATCHER, I had the opportunity to talk to one of its stars, Lou Ferrigno Jr. In the film, Ferrigno Jr. plays tough guy Colton, and though his screen time is minimal, his performance leaves quite an impact.

Lou Ferrigno Jr. was born in Santa Monica California and is the eldest son to the one and only Lou Ferrigno, whom famously played The Incredible Hulk from the 70’s till the 80’s. Lou Jr. started his entertainment career as a fitness model but with his good looks and sheer talent, he quickly transitioned to commercials, television, and film. “Days Of Our Lives” was his first dramatic break, continuing to excel in the entertainment industry from there. You may know Mr. Ferrigno more for his TV roles on hit shows like “How I Met Your Mother,” “S.W.A.T.” and “9-1-1.”

When the DREAMCATCHER script first came his way, he knew he had to be a part of this project. Being a fan of the late 90’s/early 2000’s slasher films such as Scream, Wrong Turn, and I Know What You Did Last Summer, he was ready to help bring this variation to life. Per Lou, and I agree, “The genre is so diluted. We want to be impressed and not able to figure out [the entire movie] early on. I wanted to be a part of something special and help people invest in the movie.”

Though normally cast as the good guy/hero figure, this was a chance for Mr. Ferrigno Jr. to sink his acting chops into a bad guy persona. Lou stated, “Normally I am the powerful one in my films and no one takes me down. This was good chance to show a different view, but it had to look real of course. Originally, the script called for the guy attacking me to trip me and go in for the kill. I thought ‘How is this little dude going to realistically look like he can overpower me?’ I ended up telling the actor to grab a crowbar and to just go for it, and he did. Then, when he placed the plastic sheet over my face, I truly could not inhale and lost my breath. Everyone was checking on me after the take.” This was a great call by Lou as it made the scene more believable and had you thinking damn, this killer is unreal if he’s able to take down someone like Ferrigno Jr.

Being no stranger to film or television, I asked him if he had a preference to one or the other, he stated, “TV is more reliable, however, there are so many cooks in the kitchen, so many different people to please and keep happy. Films are a privilege where you are afforded more freedom and time. You become family with the cast and crew.” They both have their pros and cons from what I hear, and Mr. Ferrigno knocks them all out the park when involved.

Lastly, I had to know if he had any ideal roles he would like to see in the future. He quickly answered, “I would love to be a romantic lead in an action film. Something reminiscent of True Lies where I can be more of myself. Tell jokes, capture a lady’s heart.” This sounds amazing and whomever gets to star as the female lead in this passion project would be quite the lucky lady.

Check out all that Lou Ferrigno Jr. has to offer in DREAMCATCHER, now in theaters, on digital and On Demand. For more on the film, check out our review here.
