Today Director James Wan shared the official release date for the upcoming horror-thriller MALIGNANT, which is being released through Warner Bros. Pictures.

On his official Instagram, the director revealed that filming was now wrapped on the film. He shared further stating that MALIGNANT was meant to be a smaller production but, due to the pandemic, it ended up prolonging filming time. Check out his official statement below:

“MALIGNANT comes out September 10th.

I finally wrapped it last week. This was supposed to be my “little horror thriller” I do between the big ones, but the pandemic pushed it as long the big ones.

I’m super excited for this film. I don’t even know how to describe it. I wanted to do something original and genre-bending, and different to my other work, but still in the spirit of the horror-thrillers I grew up with. More to come. #MalignantMovie”

MALIGNANT stars Annabelle Wallis (“Peaky Blinders”, The Mummy), Maddie Hasson (We Summon The Darkness, “Impulse”), George Young (A Bread Factory Parts 1 & 2, “Containment”), Michole Briana White (“Reed Between The Lines”, I Will Follow), Jake Abel (“Supernatural”, I Am Number Four), Jacqueline McKenzie (Deep Blue Sea, “The 4400”), and Ingrid Bisu (The Nun, Toni Erdmann).

MALIGNANT marks director James Wan’s return to his roots with this new original horror thriller. Wan has primarily worked in the horror genre, most known for being the co-creator of the Saw franchise and Insidious franchises and the creator of The Conjuring universe. Outside of the horror genre, most may know him with his most recent genre work, Aquaman.

The film’s screenplay was written by Akela Cooper and JT Petty, based on a story by Wan and Ingrid Bisu. The film is produced by wan and Michael Clear.  Richard Brener, Eric McLeod, Ingrid Bisu, Judson Scott, and Peter Luo serve as Executive Producers on the project.

MALIGNANT will be available in theaters and IMAX and on HBO Max on September 10, 2021. It will be available on HBO Max for 31 days from its theatrical release.
