Just in time for the new year, Netflix has graciously gifted us a 4th and final season of the hit show CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA. Premiering on December 31, CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA‘s final eight episodes find The Eldritch Terror descending upon Greendale. The coven must fight each terrifying threat one-by-one (The Weird, The Returned, The Darkness and more), all leading up to…The Void, aka the End of All Things. As the witches wage war, with the help of The Fright Club, Nick begins to slowly earn his way back into Sabrina’s heart, but will it be too late?
Recently, Nightmarish Conjurings’ Shannon McGrew had the chance to attend a round-table interview featuring the cast of the series. In our second segment, we spoke with Jaz Sinclair, who plays Rosalind Walker, as well as Lachlan Wilson, who plays Theo Putnam, best friends of Sabrina Spellman, about what they consider to be the scariest creature of the series and what they’ll miss most about playing their respective characters.
As part of The Fright Club, ya’ll have to go up against some truly terrifying creations. Has there been one creature in particular that truly terrified either of you?
Lachlan Watson: Uncle Jesse, he scared the heebie-jeebies out of me.
Jaz Sinclair: Uncle Jesse. This was early, too, when we were just like, no, we’re going all-in on the gory nasty stuff. We do that throughout, but it was like right when we were getting used to it.
Lachlan Watson: You get used to it after a while. Like there’s some horrible mangled thing at craft services and you’re like, “Hey, what’s up? How are your kids?”
Jaz Sinclair: They always just messed [Uncle Jesse] up with the worst, like boils and then the peeling skin and the eyeball. Like, he was the only character that I couldn’t look at when I was on set Like I was like, look dude, I know you’re so lovely but I just can’t be around you right now. (laughs).
Lachlan Watson: Jason Beaudoin, who played him, is such a lovely guy. He knew my mom and we would always have lovely chats, then he would just show up with like half his face missing and like, try to ask me about my hometown and I’d be like, “Jason, I cannot with you. I have to scream and cry about you later.” (laughs).
Looking back on all four seasons, what have been your favorite parts about playing Rosalind and Theo?
Jaz Sinclair: I love that [CAOS creator] Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is such a wickedly smart, brave creative because it has been such a pleasure not knowing what the heck my character is going to get into until she’s all the way into it. And he’s like, “Oh, you’re a cheerleader now” and I’m like “Great!” [and then he’s like] “Oh, you play the bass now” and I’m like, “Great” and he’s like, “Oh, you’re a witch now” and I’m like, “Great”. Like being able to roll with the punches, and he throws so many, was really fun. When you’re doing something for so long, it would be easy to get bored or complacent or whatever and knowing that something new was coming and something fun was coming was really a pleasure.
Lachlan Watson: For Theo, it was really cool that Theo’s arc kind of echoes a little bit of my early teenhood of figuring out who I was. It was really cool to dip back into that and be able to hold Theo’s hand and watch them really also come full circle into a fully realized person and find that happiness. I think everyone was a little worried that Theo’s life would just be really sad for a while. So to be able to come full circle and show some queer joy really, really meant a lot to my queer little self.
