In GODMOTHERED, Eleanor, a young, inexperienced fairy godmother-in-training (Jillian Bell) who upon hearing that her chosen profession is facing extinction, decides to show the world that people still need fairy godmothers. Finding a mislaid letter from a 10-year-old girl in distress, Eleanor tracks her down and discovers that the girl, Mackenzie, is now a 40-year-old single mom (Isla Fisher) working at a news station in Boston. Having lost her husband several years earlier, Mackenzie has all but given up on the idea of “Happily Ever After,” but Eleanor is bound and determined to give Mackenzie a happiness makeover, whether she likes it or not.
When it comes to Eleanor, you definitely can’t miss her if she’s in your vicinity. Stills from the film show actress Jillian Bell decked out in a soft pink gown with pink flower accents on the shoulders and a large poof skirt – but are there more elaborate costumes in store for Eleanor? When speaking with Bell about Eleanor’s costume, she stated, “I didn’t really have a costume change besides [being] in PJ’s at one point, but for the most part I’m in a corset and a ball gown the entire time we shot.”

After arriving in Boston and locating Mackenzie, Eleanor experiences some of her own holiday magic by doing things such as sledding, attending a Boston Bruin’s tailgating party, and more…all while wearing that giant pink gown. When talking to Bell about the different activities Eleanor does and if that caused any issues with the gown, she surprised us by saying how much she liked it. “It really helps get into character, stay in character, helps the posture,” explained Bell.
Even so, while GODMOTHERED was filming in Boston, MA, Bell did have a rather chilling experience with the New England weather and her lavish gown. “There was one day, [when] we shot on a field and it was very cold. It was 17 degrees, and I was just in the dress and was shaking uncontrollably. But besides that, I feel like [we all] made it work.”
For Bell, being in a Disney film was by far a dream come true. When talking about fulfilling that dream with GODMOTHERED, Bell stated, “I’d always been looking for something kind of a magical-being to play because my goal in life was to play a witch and this is the closest I’ve ever gotten to it.” But if there is one thing Bell is kicking herself for it’s that she didn’t take one of those pink costume gowns home. “I wish I could’ve kept one because I like to keep one costume for everything I do, but this was a pretty massive costume to ask for,” laughed Bell.
We can only imagine how happy she must be now that she’s not in a fairy ballgown 24/7! Make sure to see the magic come to life when GODMOTHERED begins streaming exclusively on Disney+ on December 4th.
