At such a young age, actor Amanda Christine is quickly proving she is a force to be reckoned with. Having had guest appearances in shows such as NBC’s “9-1-1”, “Colony”, “How To Get Away With Murder” as well as movies such as Stephanie, OG, and Miss Virginia, Amanda has since landed her first lead role as Ava in Amazon/Blumhouse’s psychological thriller, BLACK BOX as part of their “Welcome to the Blumhouse” series. For the release of the film, I had the opportunity to chat with Amanda who discussed everything from funny moments that happened on set to her favorite scary movies.

InĀ BLACK BOX, from Director Emmanueul Osei-Kuffour, after losing his wife and his memory in a car accident, a single father (Mamoudou Athie) undergoes an agonizing experimental treatment that causes him to question who he really is.

Hi Amanda! Thank you so much for speaking with me today about BLACK BOX. To start things off, can you tell us a little bit about your character?

Amanda Christine: I play Ava, she’s going through a tough time in her life. Her dad had a horrible accident and is having difficulties remembering how to be the great dad that he used to be. Ava steps up to take care of the family because he cannot, so she takes over the household and kind of helps him out.

How was it working with Director Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour on set?

Amanda Christine: Emmanuel, he was a fun director, I loved him. He was fun, he was caring, and he took in what people had to say, you know? And he made the film better.

Amanda Christine and Mamoudou Athie in BLACK BOX

How was it working with your co-stars Mamoudou Athie and Tosin Morohunfola? Were there any funny moments that you had on set with them?

Amanda Christine: Mamoudou and Tosin were really fun. Actually, we did [have funny moments]. I love making people smile and me and Mamoudou had a lot of fun moment like working on the handshake that we had to do. It was really fun cause we kept kind of changing it up to make it better as we go on.

If you could write the story of what happens to Ava and her dad after this movie, how would you write it? What would you like to see happen?

Amanda Christine: If I were to write [the story] after the film, I would probably write that Ava grows up to be a mature person and her dad has got his memory back. I feel like Phylicia Rashad, who plays Lillian, would bring back the Black Box and use it on many more people. I would say then that me and my dad would kind of be like heroes, like the heroes in crime (laughs).

Lastly, since this film is a psychological thriller, are you a fan of horror/thrillers? Do you like watching scary movies?

Amanda Christine: I do! I love mystery, I love scary, I love horror, but I might like thrillers [more], but I like scary movies. I like sitting on the edge of my seat, a lot. My favorite mystery film would probably be IT or…I love Scooby-Doo, I love Scooby-Doo mysteries.

BLACK BOX is now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. For more on the film, check out our review here.
