RLJE Films, a business unit of AMC Networks, has picked up select rights to THE ROOM from Shudder, AMC Networks’ streaming service for horror, thriller, and the supernatural.
The claustrophobic shut-in film is the most-watched Shudder Original film of the year and one of the most-watched Original premieres in the history of the service.
THE ROOM, which stars Olga Kurylenko (Mara, Quantum of Solace), Kevin Janssens (Revenge, “Undercover”), Francis Chapman (Serial Teachers 2, “Which is Witch”), John Flanders (Iron Sky: The Coming Race, Transit 17), and Joshua Wilson, is the live-action feature debut of director Christian Volckman, whose previously directed the 2006 animated sci-fi action film Renaissance, which featured the voices of Daniel Craig and Jonathan Pryce.
THE ROOM’s streaming premiere on Shudder on March 12 marked the first time the film had been commercially available in the U.S., Canada or the UK. The film had its world premiere last April at the Brussels International Fantastic Film festival and followed with a successful run on the international film festival circuit, earning Best Feature honors at both South Korea’s Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival and France’s Strasbourg European Fantastic Film Festival.
In THE ROOM, when Kate and Matt leave the city to move into an old house, they discover a secret hidden room that has the extraordinary power to materialize anything they wish for. Their new life becomes a true fairytale. Yet beneath this apparent state of bliss, something darker lurks: some wishes can have dire consequences.
RLJE Films will release the film on DVD for $27.97 and on Blu-ray for $15.95. THE ROOM will be released on VOD, Digital HD, DVD, and Blu-ray on July 21, 2020.
RLJE Films’ recent features include the 2019 Toronto Film Festival hit Color Out of Space, based on the classic H.P. Lovecraft story, starring Nicolas Cage and Joely Richardson and written and directed by Richard Stanley; and The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot written and directed by Robert Krzykowski and starring Academy Award nominee Sam Elliott, Aidan Turner, and Ron Livingston. Upcoming releases include David Ayer’s The Tax Collector starring Shia La Beouf and Bobby Soto; and The Owners from director Julian Berg and starring Maisie Williams from “Game of Thrones.”
