Epic Pictures has announced the acquisition of the worldwide rights to the sci-fi/thriller DOORS, starring Josh Peck (“Drake & Josh”, “Grandfathered”), Wilson Bethel (“Hart of Dixie”, “Daredevil”), and Lina Esco (“S.W.A.T.”).
Created by Chris White, DOORS is directed by Jeff Desom, Saman Kesh, and Dugan O’Neal and is produced by Bloody Disgusting’s Brad Miska (V/H/S trilogy), BoulderLight Pictures’ J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules (The Vigil), and Kimberly Stuckwisch. Tom Owen serves as an executive producer.
“Since the V/H/S trilogy, Brad Miska and I have been looking for another project to work on together,” says Epic Pictures CEO Patrick Ewald. “We discussed a lot of ideas but nothing ever clicked. But the first time I saw the incredible vision of DOORS and found out that Raphael Margules and. J.D. Lifshitz of The Vigil were also producers, I knew that this was the one. I am honored to be a part of such an amazing and powerful film that pushes the boundaries of science fiction storytelling.”
Penned by Desom, Kesh, O’Neal, White, and Ed Hobbs, the film takes place when a number of mysterious alien “doors” suddenly appear around the globe. Not knowing what the doors are or where they lead, individuals from all walks of life must come together to decide if they can – or better yet, if they should – attempt to cross to the other side.
The directing trio, Saman Kesh, Dugan O’Neal, and Jeff Desom are promising up-and-coming filmmakers and notable music video directors — each having worked with top talent in the music industry. DOORS lead filmmaker Kesh has directed music videos for Calvin Harris, Ed Sheeran, Kygo, and Hot Chip, O’Neal has directed for Ellie Goulding, Gym Class Heroes, Haim, and Chromeo, and Desom has directed for Father John Misty and J. Balvin.
“We are thrilled to be working with Epic to get this visually arresting and mind-bending sci-fi film in front of audiences,” says BoulderLight Pictures’ J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules. “Creating DOORS gave us an opportunity to simultaneously explore both grounded emotions and cosmic themes from the constantly shifting perspective of our talented filmmakers.”
BoulderLight Pictures’ most recent successes include The Vigil – which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and was acquired by Blumhouse for U.S. and Wild Bunch/Elle Driver for international – and Becky – which stars Kevin James, Lulu Wilson, and Joel McHale and just opened #1 at the US box office even amidst COVID-related theater shut-downs.
The deal was negotiated by Patrick Ewald of Epic Pictures and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight.
