While SXSW has canceled, many are coming together to try to bring their work to the general population. One such film that is getting a special screening is THE TOLL.
The SXSW 2020 Official Selection THE TOLL (originally in the Midnighters category) is proceeding with a private event screening at Alamo Drafthouse locations in Austin and Los Angeles on the evening of Sunday, March 15, at 10:30 PM CST/10:30 PM PST. The filmmaker will provide an intro and there will be a Q&A at both locations.
In attendance at these screenings will be director and writer, Michael Nader, and actor/producer Max Topplin and Jordan Hayes.
It’s 1 am. An exhausted CAMI orders a rideshare at the airport. Her driver: SPENCER, awkward and unsettling. Her destination: Her dad’s place in the middle of nowhere. Cami grows increasingly suspicious of Spencer’s odd behavior. This fear gives way to full-blown terror when their car breaks down on a secluded road. And they both realize they’re not alone…
Suddenly the car comes under attack – a rock smashes through the window. Attached to a message that warns visitors must “pay the toll.” Cami and Spencer realize it’s a supernatural force haunting them: the Toll Man, pitting these two strangers against each other. Until they discover that for either to survive, one of them has to die.
Starring in THE TOLL is Max Topplin (Carrie, Almost Anything), Jordan Hayes (“Helix”, Almost Anything), Rosemary Dunsmore (Total Recall, The Santa Suit), and James Mcgowan (Pyewacket, Christie’s Revenge).
The film is directed and written by Michael Nader (Head Count, Flock of Four). Topplin, Hayes, and Will Frank (Totem, Anyone Home?) produced the film with Marko Hegner acting as the executive producer on the film.
