[News] SONIC THE HEDGEHOG Single "Speed Me Up" Races Ahead of Film Premiere
Still from “Speed Me Up”
Prior to the February 14th release of Paramount Pictures’ upcoming major motion picture, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, hip-hop superstars Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Yachty, and Sueco the Child have teamed up for a new single titled, “Speed Me Up.”

The theme song produced by superstar producer duo Take A Daytrip (Lil Nas X, Big Sean, YBN Cordae) arrives alongside an exciting companion visual, which sees all four artists transformed into 16-bit Sonic characters. Together, the group mixes rapid-fire lyrics over hip-hop infused 80s nostalgia production for a collaboration of blockbuster proportions.

The new music video will make its broadcast premiere on MTV’s GRAMMY® special airing January 24th. The song will also appear throughout the film’s marketing campaign leading up its release on February 14th.

“Speed Me Up” was overseen by Kevin Weaver, President, Atlantic Records West Coast (Soundtrack Album Producer of Birds of Prey, The Greatest Showman, Suicide Squad, Furious 7, The Fault in Our Stars, The Fate of the Furious). Named by Rolling Stone as a “soundtrack guru,” Weaver is a GRAMMY® Award winner and five-time nominee, who has produced numerous multi-platinum soundtrack projects that have amassed tens of millions of albums sold worldwide.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

The film stars James Marsden (“Westworld”, The Best of Me), Ben Schwartz (“Ducktales”, “House of Lies”), Tika Sumpter (Nobody’s Fool, Southside with You), Natasha Rothwell (Limited Partners, “Insecure”), Neal McDonough (“Arrow”, “Desperate Housewives”), Adam Pally (“Happy Endings”, “The Mindy Project”), and Jim Carrey (“Kidding”, Dark Crimes).

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is directed by Jeff Fowler (A Gentlemen’s Duel, Gopher Broke) and written by Patrick Casey (“Golan the Insatiable”, 12 Deadly Days), Josh Miller (Final Girls, “Queen of the South”), and Oren Uziel (The Cloverfield Paradox, 22 Jump Street).

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG will speed its way into theaters on February 14, 2020.
