Screen Media Films has released the official trailer for the horror-thriller THE SONATA starring Freya Tingley and the late Rutger Hauer. The film will be released by Screen Media in theaters and on-demand on January 10, 2020. Make sure you check out the trailer below.

THE SONATA screened at this year’s FilmQuest Festival. In our review, we described the film as “quite perfect for the Halloween viewing season.”

THE SONATA tells the story of a gifted musician (Freya Tingley) who inherits a mansion after her long lost father (Rutger Hauer) dies under mysterious circumstances. She discovers his last musical masterpiece riddled with cryptic symbols that unravels an evil secret.

After being informed of the sudden death of her long lost composer father (Rutger Hauer), a young virtuoso violinist Rose (Freya Tingley) inherits an old mansion in which he used to live. There, she discovers her father’s final work: a mysterious music score marked with strange symbols. With the help of Charles (Simon Abkarian), her agent and manager, she deciphers the symbols and, little by little, starts to unlock secrets concerning her father’s past, setting in motion the mechanisms of a somber plan imagined since the very day she was born. They soon discover that there’s more to the sonata in question than meets the eye which, when played, triggers and unleashes dark and terrifying forces.

The film stars Freya Tingley (“Hemlock Grove”, The Wrong Nanny), the late Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner, The Hitcher), Simon Abkarian (Someone, Somewhere, “Kaboul Kitchen”), and James Faulkner (Atomic Blonde, Underworld: Blood Wars).

The film is directed by Andrew Desmond (Galaxy of Horrors, Entity) and the score was composed by Alexis Maingaud (Blossom, Psi).
