In celebration of the 15th anniversary of the original Grudge, which starred Sarah Michelle Gellar and spawned two sequels, we have the official poster for the upcoming reboot of THE GRUDGE, arriving in theaters January 3, 2020 from Sony/Screen Gems.
Though information has been relatively scarce, we do know that this iteration of THE GRUDGE centers, once again, around a house that is cursed by a vengeful ghost that dooms those who enter it with a violent death. It’ll be interesting to see how much this film deviates from the original source, but if there is one thing we know, it’s that we have full faith in Nicolas Pesce and his vision of the film.
Directed by Nicolas Pesce (The Eyes of My Mother, Piercing), THE GRUDGE stars Andrea Riseborough (Mandy, Black Mirror), Demian Bichir (The Nun), John Cho (Searching), Betty Gilpin (Glow) with Lin Shaye (Insidious) and Jackie Weaver (Widows). With a screenplay by Nicolas Pesce and a story by Nicolas Pesce and Jeff Buhler, THE GRUDGE is based on the film Ju-On: The Grudge written & directed by Takashi Shimizu. THE GRUDGE is produced by the legendary Sam Raimi as well as Rob Tapert and Taka Ichise.
Be on the lookout for the full trailer reveal coming this Monday, October 28th! THE GRUDGE is rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America for the following reasons: disturbing violence and bloody images, terror and some language.
