Queensbury Pictures, the year-old Chicago- and London-based production company today announced the start of shooting in Chicago on BROADCAST SIGNAL INTRUSION, a sci-fi horror film directed by Jacob Gentry.
The cast includes Harry Shum Jr. (Crazy Rich Asians, “Glee”), Kelley Mack (“The Walking Dead”) and Chris Sullivan (“This Is Us”, I Trapped the Devil).
BROADCAST SIGNAL INTRUSION, a technological thriller inspired by actual broadcast interruptions that occurred in the Windy City in the late 1980s, and remain unsolved to this day. The film an unsettling journey into our collective technological nightmares, confronting our deepest, darkest fears of both man and machine.
Shum has been cast in the lead role as James. While logging tapes of decades-old TV broadcasts, video archivist James (Harry Shum Jr.) comes across a surreal and disturbing clip of what appears to be an imprisoned android. James believes it’s the product of a mysterious broadcast signal hacking, and his discovery takes a sinister turn when he tracks down similar broadcast intrusions that send him on an obsessive mission. Now James must confront two very real possibilities: that the videos may be clues to a crime beyond all comprehension; and that whoever was behind them may be very aware that James is coming uncomfortably close to the truth.
Harry Shum Jr. was recently announced to star in Universal Pictures’ All My Life, inspired by the life of Jenn Carter and her husband Solomon Chau. Logline: Love, life and laughter circle a young couple as they plan their wedding in the face of devastating news. He is known for his role in the award-winning smash-hit Crazy Rich Asians, which teased his character’s appearance in Warner Bros planned sequels, as well as the acclaimed series “Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments”, for which he won a People’s Choice Award, and his six-season run on “Glee”, for which he won a Screen Actors Guild Award. Shum Jr. is represented by Paradigm, Triniti Management and Stone, Genow, Smelkinson, Binder & Christopher, LLP.
Director Jacob Gentry has made an impressive range of films and TV movies, including the award-winning romantic mystery Synchronicity, the sci-fi thriller Night Sky, the My Super Psycho Sweet 16 trilogy and the technological thriller The Signal.
Greg Newman, Nicola Goelzhaeuser, Giles Edwards and Brett Hays are producing for Queensbury. Harry Shum Jr. is an executive producer.
BROADCAST SIGNAL INTRUSION is based on a feature script developed by Queensbury. It was written by Tim Woodall and Phil Drinkwater, a British writing duo who submitted the screenplay through New Blood, an initiative set up and run by Queensbury partner Giles Edwards since 2017 in partnership with the U.K.’s premier genre event Frightfest.
In keeping with Queensbury’s “produced in Chicago” ethos, the story is loosely inspired by actual broadcast interruptions that occurred in the Windy City in the late 1980s.
Queensbury’s initial production, the psychological horror film Girl on the Third Floor, which saw a successful world premiere in March at SXSW, has already become a critical darling on the festival circuit and will be released nationwide on October 25th.
Queensbury Pictures exists to usher in a next wave of storytelling. With headquarters in Chicago and London, Queensbury develops and produces films and series crossing multiple genres. Queensbury strives to deliver audacious, world-class content to a global audience.
