[News] Catalina Island Museum Presents Dia de los Muertos Festival

Catalina Island Museum is excited to host a unique celebration for November’s First Fridays at the Museum with a lively evening of events highlighting the traditional Mexican cultural celebration of Dia de los Muertos.

Join the museum in Avalon’s newest tradition bringing Mexican cultural elements, dancing, music and other activities for the entire family to enjoy at the 2nd Annual Dia de los Muertos Family Festival on Friday, November 1 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Catalina Island Museum.

Catalina Island Museum invites families and friends of all ages to experience a special evening celebration with the 2nd Annual Dia de los Muertos Family Festival. The museum welcomes the colorful Mexican tradition celebrating life and death while honoring family members and friends who are no longer with us. Enjoy vibrant festivities like face painting and tequila tasting complete with Coyote Joe’s tacos, a specialty cocktail and other beverages. The evening continues with cultural performances including live music by Sin Frontera, a performance by Danza Azteca and more!

The festival also invites all creative artists to submit their artwork in the Dia de los Muertos Family Festival Ofrenda/Altar & Art Contest for a chance to win a cash prize. There is no fee to submit an entry and all participants of the contest will also receive free admission to the event. Prizes will be awarded to Best Ofrenda/Altar and Best Work of Art.

The Dia de los Muertos Family Festival will take place on Friday, November 1 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. with the Afrenda/Altar & Art Judging from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. and the winners announced at 7:30 p.m. The festival will take place at Ada Blanche Wrigley Schreiner Building (Catalina Island Museum, 217 Metropole Avenue, CA 90704).

Tickets for members are $12 and non-members are $17. Children (ages 3-15) are $5 and must be accompanied by an adult. All participants of the Ofrenda/Altar & Art Contest receive free admission to the Dia de los Muertos Family Festival. Tickets are available at https://www.catalinamuseum.org/calendar.
