A psychologically unsettling and atmospheric thriller set in 1989 Tokyo from director Wash Westmoreland (Colette, Still Alice), Earthquake Bird follows Lucy Fly (Alicia Vikander), an enigmatic expat haunted by a painful past, who enters into an intense relationship with Teiji (Naoki Kobayashi), a handsome local photographer. Lucy’s imperturbable exterior begins to crack when a naive newcomer, Lily Bridges (Riley Keough), becomes entangled in their lives and ends up missing — suspected dead.
The cast consists of Alicia Vikander (Tomb Raider, Ex Machina), Riley Keough (Welcome The Stranger, The Lodge), Naoki Kobayashi (Tatara Samurai, Night Hero NAOTO), Kiki Sukezane (“Lost in Space”, “The Terror“), Yoshiko Sakuma (Isan sôzoku, Samurai Banners), Kazuhiro Muroyama (The Great Raid, The Bank), Ken Yamamura (The Wolverine, Godzilla), Crystal Kay (Seoul Searching, Happy Feet Two), Akiko Iwase (The Forest), and Jack Huston (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Ben-Hur).
EARTHQUAKE BIRD is directed and written by Wash Westmoreland (Colette, Still Alice) and is based on the novel by Susanna Jones.
There will be exclusive theatrical engagements of the film beginning November 1, 2019. However, the film will then be released globally on Netflix on November 15, 2019.
