Capital W’s award-winning, one-on-one immersive experience, RED FLAGS, returns this fall with a brand new cast and performances at Indiecade and Two Bit Circus. Described as “a journey that is as uncomfortably self-revealing as it is deeply affecting” (Stage Raw) and “the most interactive immersive experience I’ve attended (No Proscenium), RED FLAGS is a fictional first date between one audience member and one actor: the audience member has met “Emma” online and now the pair are going out. As Emma’s story unfolds, the audience member must actively participate in the familiar social script of a date and confront their own perceptions of dating, intimacy, and self-fulfilling prophecies.
Joining the RED FLAGS company are veteran immersive performers Haylee Nichele (The Johnny Cycle, Chained) and Heather Ann Gottlieb (Hamlet-Mobile, Dirty Girl Podcast). Both actors make their RED FLAGS debut at Indiecade, an annual festival celebrating independent games and interactive experiences running October 10-12. After the festival, RED FLAGS transfers to Two Bit Circus for weekly performances through Thanksgiving. RED FLAGS marks Capital W‘s second visit to Indiecade as an official festival nominee. The company’s first nomination, for Hamlet-Mobile in 2016, resulted in a win for “Best Game Design.”
Capital W is the joint venture of long-time collaborators Lauren Ludwig (Director/Writer) and Monica Miklas (Producer). Founded in 2015, Capital W creates intimate immersive theater that questions, examines, and advocates for human connection in the face of mortality. Critics call the company’s first production, Hamlet-Mobile, “pure gold” and their most recent, Rochester, 1996, “the next step forward in immersive theatre” (No Proscenium).
RED FLAGS stars Haylee Nichele and Heather Ann Gottlieb, running in repertory, as Emma. The show is directed by Lauren Ludwig and produced by Monica Miklas. Capital W is production managed by Christina Bryan and the role of Emma was originated by Lauren Flans. Ludwig penned the script, informed by a collaborative story-sharing process with Flans, Miklas, and other bad date survivors.
Ticketed performances of RED FLAGS begin on October 15 and run each week through Thanksgiving at Two Bit Circus in the DTLA Arts District. RED FLAGS is for audiences aged 21 years and up and includes adult language and topics that may be uncomfortable for some audiences (full content warnings are available online). The show runs approximately 60 minutes in length, though exact timing varies. Audience members of all sexualities, gender identities, mobility levels, and relationship statuses are encouraged to attend.
