The much-anticipated teaser trailer has been released for the upcoming JOKER movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix, arriving in theaters October 4.

Not much is known about the movie, and word on the street is that this is going to be a much different version of the villainous character that we all hate to love. IMDB states that the film centers around a failed stand-up comedian who is driven insane and becomes a psychopathic murderer.

The film, which is directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover), stars Joaquin Phoenix, who looks like he went full method for this role, along with Robert DeNiro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.

Will this iteration of the Joker meet Batman in the movie? Only time will tell, but the trailer does indicate that Gotham is in disarray and we do see the Joker going to Arkham Hospital. Either way, this film looks to be a huge departure from the superhero movies we are used to and I gotta be honest, I’m totally down for it!

JOKER arrives in theaters October 4.
