[Trailer] MIDSOMMAR Embraces the Heathen in Us All!

Anyone who knows us at Nightmarish Conjurings knows that we have been obsessed with writer and director Ari Aster’s Hereditary since we saw the first trailer. Our founder and editor-in-chief has had nothing but high praise for the film. Needless to say, we have been eagerly waiting to see what Aster’s next project will be post-Hereditary and now we have it with the teaser trailer for MIDSOMMAR.

What starts out as a retreat for a couple up in a Scandinavian country turns into something else bloody and, arguably, a bit sinister as we watch the teaser progress. While the glorious scenery and usage of bright whites present this feeling of calm and beauty, blood and terror make its presence known. And that is really all we know and really need to be intrigued by Aster’s sophomore film.

While watching the teaser, I’m immediately reminded of the summer solstice celebration known as Litha. It is the peak of light and joy, symbolic of fertility and virility. However, while the day marks itself as the longest day of the year, the hint of something dark approaching is always present in the back of our minds. Summer will be ending and the cold will be coming. Perhaps, this might be something to keep in thought with MIDSOMMAR.

MIDSOMMAR stars Florence Pugh (Lady Macbeth, Little Women), Jack Reynor (Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, Sing Street), William Jackson Harper (“The Good Place”, All Good Things), Vilhelm Blomgran (Gösta, The Days the Flowers Bloom), Archie Madekwe (Teen Spirit, Informer), Ellora Torchia (Les Cowboys, The Split), and Will Poulter (The Revenant, The Maze Runner).

MIDSOMMAR will be released this summer, with the official date to be determined.
