Interview: Actor Brandon Scott for CHANNEL ZERO: THE DREAM DOOR

In the latest season of CHANNEL ZERO: THE DREAM DOOR, newlyweds Jillian and Tom have come to learn how dangerous secrets can be when a mysterious door appears in their home which threatens their relationship and lives. For this season, I had the chance to speak with returning actor Brandon Scott about his role as Tom as well as the terrifying reality of what Pretzel Jack encompasses.

NIghtmarish Conjurings: Hi Brandon, thank you so much for speaking with me today! To start things off, can you tell us a little about your character Tom and how he relates to the new season of CHANNEL ZERO: THE DREAM DOOR?

Brandon Scott: Tom is a man with a past and secrets. Though well meaning, he keeps these secrets because he thinks it’s the best way to protect his new wife Jill, and the only way to keep their loving marriage afloat. When Jill gets upset, terrifying things happen. So, yeah…basically that terror comes for Tom.

Nightmarish Conjurings: What was it about the role of Tom that attracted you to the character?

BS: I loved the idea of exploring a nurturing well-meaning character, set in his worldview, who thinks he knows best…and is confronted with circumstances that reveal to him how little he knows. There was an opportunity to find a strength and a vulnerability in him. The badass and the bruises. In addition, I love relationship drama and was attracted to the relationship “horror” drama of the scripts.

Nightmarish Conjurings: You were previously on CHANNEL ZERO: BUTCHER BLOCK where you played a police officer, now you are in a totally new role unlike that of your previous one. What has your experience been like to be a part of this universe?

BS: Unreal. As an actor, I crave creating dope characters and putting them in epically challenging circumstances. This universe has provided that ten fold for me. I was given the opportunity to do so many exciting things as an actor throughout both seasons (now I just need to wield a sword or lightsaber). And it’s been a joy working with all the cast and crews. I love this family.

Nightmarish Conjurings: You and Maria Sten’s character are newlyweds who are experiencing a tumultuous roadblock in the relationship. Prior to filming, were you able to spend time together to bond?

BS: We were very fortunate to have had a few meetings and rehearsals prior to shooting. And the director, Evan Katz, was instrumental in challenging us and setting up a playground to explore and create a relationship.

Nightmarish Conjurings: To be honest, Pretzel Jack scares the shit out of me. How do you feel about Pretzel Jack and should we all be as terrified as I am of him?

BS: Be very afraid!! The Pretzel Jack actor/contortionist, Troy James, is a lovely human being; however, Pretzel Jack ain’t no joke! The trick: stay on Jill’s good side.

Nightmarish Conjurings: Last but not least, are you working on any projects that we should be keeping our eyes out for in the future?

BS: Currently I am guest-starring on a show with a few NDAs I had to sign. Other than that, I spend my time creating music with my Hip Hop/Soul band Verbal+Icarus (with NBC Timeless actor, Malcolm Barrett). We are about to release our second album entitled Fun House.
