Interview: Actor Adam Stephenson for THE PURGE TV Series
Adam Stephenson

THE PURGE TV series is going strong as it enters its fourth week. You can check out my review of the first three episodes by clicking here. As part of my continuing coverage of the show, I had the opportunity to interview cast member Adam Stephenson. Stephenson was kind enough to answer some questions about his character in the show, what it has been like working on THE PURGE, and the fan response. Here is what he had to say:

Nightmarish Conjurings: In the first couple of episodes we get to meet your character, Mark. What can you tell us about him?

Adam Stephenson: Mark is very driven with a lot of admiration for his boss, Jane, played by Amanda Warren. He’s a little naive about what being “out of the house” on Purge Night might actually mean. This is his first time doing that but with the office on complete security lock down it’s easy to relax.

Nightmarish Conjurings: What was it about the role of Mark that interested you in playing him?

AS: He’s a well-rounded likable guy. I think he genuinely wants to do good and be contributing member to his work team. There’s definitely some career aspiration there which leads to some brown-nosing but who doesn’t want to get ahead in this world?

Nightmarish Conjurings: Between THE PURGE and your role on MR. MERCEDES, you’ve been able to be part of some very popular shows this year. What have the fan reactions been like?

AS: It has been overwhelmingly positive. These are two very popular genre shows. THE PURGE is an established franchise branching into TV and MR. MERCEDES is a brainchild of Stephen King. So both have fan expectations and it’s nice to know that I’m now a piece of those larger puzzles.

Nightmarish Conjurings: What has been your favorite part about working on a show that is part of such a well-known franchise such as THE PURGE?

AS: THE PURGE has this universality that I think speaks to the audience. Namely – “what would you do?” So watchers will identify with a character and love or hate them based on how that character reacts on Purge Night. The movies built this hypothetical world and with the TV series we get to explore a variety of people from vastly different backgrounds and how they would handle Purging or being Purged. That’s what I love. I love sitting around and asking myself – “what would I do?”

Nightmarish Conjurings: Can you give us some insight on what fans can expect from your character this season?

AS: Mark plays a part in challenging both his boss Jane and co-worker Alison’s desire to get ahead. Is climbing the corporate ladder really an ‘at-all-costs’ venture? I think for many, the Purge is a night to get revenge but for Mark there are more subtle things that can be accomplished.
