I remember growing up as a kid and the joy that accompanied Easter Egg hunts. My mom would place plastic eggs hidden throughout the house filled with candy that my brother and I would have to search for, eventually leading us to a giant Easter basket filled with goodies. It’s been a long time since I’ve gone on an Easter egg hunt, so when Zombie Joe’s announced that they would be doing a F*CKED UP EASTER EGG HUNT, I knew I was in for a treat – and that it would be nothing like what I had experienced as a kid.
Zombie Joe’s F*CKED UP EASTER EGG HUNT is hands down one of the most entertaining events I have been to as of late. Situated at Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre, groups of approximately 10 people get to experience a whole new mythology surrounding the Easter tradition. For those new to immersive experiences, this is the perfect introduction to get a taste of what it is like to be thrown into a world of fucked up chaos and fun. There is nothing extreme about this event; however, you may find yourself searching for eggs in places you never thought imaginable.
So what does a F*CKED UP EASTER EGG HUNT entail? Well, if begins with a ritual of sorts, because you know, Easter is heavily entrenched within Christianity as it revolves around the resurrection of Jesus Christ. However, don’t let that fool you, this ritual has nothing to do with bringing zombie Jesus back from the dead, it actually has nothing to do with religion at all, which for me, was something I deeply appreciated, especially being brought up in a Christian household. As for the Easter egg hunt itself, I had a blast! Led by a dominatrix with her band of misfits, our group was tasked in finding as many eggs as we could.
The space within Zombie Joe’s Underground Theater was used expertly as we were guided through many different rooms that housed many different vignettes. Though I’m not sure what all these scenarios had to do with Easter, that didn’t deter me from enjoying every single aspect of this experience. Whether it be when I had to kiss the dominatrix’s boot, or learn how to fly with a nude fairy of sorts, or the overly excited Easter bunny, or when I had to kiss a mask that was made out of “pretend” flesh, there was something for everyone! However, my favorite moment had to be the ending, where the ultimate sacrifice and ritual were to take place. Because this could be a spoiler, I won’t go to much into it, but let me tell you, seeing my boyfriend take part in the execution of this scene was one of the funniest moments I’ve ever experienced (he may not agree with me on that, but ya know, this is coming from my point of view lol).
All in all, Zombie Joe’s F*CKED UP EASTER EGG HUNT is not an event to miss. My only caveat is this is not a show you want to bring young kids to as this isn’t their type of Easter egg hunt. I’m continuously amazed by each show Zombie Joe’s brings to the table as they always have something different and unique to present and their F*CKED UP EASTER EGG HUNT is no different. With only two shows remaining, Saturday and Sunday (the Holiest of Days), you will want to make sure you get tickets before you miss out on an opportunity of chaos, fun, and debauchery.
Zombie Joe’s F*CKED UP EASTER EGG HUNT will have performances Saturday, March 31 at 8pm, 9pm and 10pm and Sunday at 4pm, 5pm, 7pm and 8pm. Tickets are only $15 and can be purchased at ZombieJoes.com or ZombieJoes.Tix.com.
