The Grinch (the main character from the iconic Dr. Seuss book, television special, and film “How The Grinch Stole Christmas”) is a holiday icon that most horror fans can get behind! Most of us can see ourselves in this sarcastic and cynical holiday thief even though Little Cindy Lou Who inspires him to change his ways. Grinchmas at Universal Studios Hollywood (daily between December 15 – December 31, 2017) is a Who-lebration of fun fit for The Grinch, his faithful dog Max and a roster of Who-ville Whos! Taking place after the Grinch’s heart grows three sizes, there is plenty to do, see and taste during your visit to the land of Whos!
For starters you can meet the Grinch himself in his newly acquired Santa suit! You would think you stepped right into the 2000 JIm Carrey film as you pose for pictures with the wacky and witty “Mean One”! And if you don’t remember exactly how Christmas was stolen by the Grinch, Little Cindy Lou Who has got you covered! Several times a day you can gather around and listen to her read from the classic book.
A highlight for me was the stage performance of Martha May and the Who Dolls! Complete with live singing and choreographed dancing, Martha and her crew are like a Who version of the Rockettes! My only complaint is that I wish their performance was longer! For all of you dogs dressed up like reindeer lovers out there, Grinchmas gives you the opportunity to meet the pup who led the Grinch’s sleigh, Max! (The dog actor who plays Max is a constant profession and never breaks character).
There are plenty of hands on activities including coloring your own Grinch Ornament and sending a post card to the Grinch listing 3 of the good deeds you did this year. For each postcard mailed, Universal Studios Hollywood will make a donation to “School on Wheels”. When night falls over Who-ville it’s time for the tree lighting ceremony. It’s quite a sight to see the 3 story, curved Seuss-like tree light up the night!
Lastly, there are plenty of yummy treats available including a giant Grinch cupcake! This delicious red velvet cupcake is even better than Roast Beast with a side of Who-Hash! I also tried the mini donuts that are deep-fried on demand and sprinkled with red sugar and they were quite tasty!
Overall, Grinchmas has much to offer for Who’s and kids of all ages! If you live in Southern California or will be visiting during the holidays don’t miss your chance to visit the only Dr. Seuss theme park experience on the West Coast!
