I have to say, I really enjoyed the opening of this short, MAUVAISES TÊTES (BAD HEADS)!  I loved the dude in the opening giving a brief disclaimer Vincent Price-style before the short started.  For those not familiar with this short, here is a quick plot summary:

MAUVAISES TÊTES (BAD HEADS) is a dark comedy in the spirit of classic MGM and Universal horror from the 1920s/30s.  It tells the story of an odd woman, Jenny, who loses her mind in the search for love and decides to create her own lover.

It opens on a bar scene, which appears to be the place of business for our suspected main character.  It seems to be post prohibition era as evidenced by the sets and spot on costume design.  I love that old time feel so this was already something I really appreciated!  The film has very minimal dialogue and has a soundtrack that is predominantly played giving it a silent film type of vibe which I did find very entertaining.  This short to me was comparable in a sense to the film MAY (2002) with an old timey touch that leads things in a different direction.

The main character appears to be one who lives with their head in the clouds but in a disturbing sort of manner.  This is one of those films where you see a characters mind unravel and it creates a sense of empathy for them.  Feeling the feels for the “villain” over the victims, is something I typically find myself enjoying throughout the “horror genre”.

Dreaming of a man’s affection, she pursues what she desires in a grizzly and most entertaining fashion.  Although this film is effective in a sense of mixing horror and romance, it’s something that I would more than likely shy away from as I’m more of the slasher type of viewer and the “slasher sequence” was done completely differently then I was anticipating.

Despite my few aforementioned “complaints”, MAUVAISES TÊTES (BAD HEADS) is definitely well written with believable acting and smooth cinematography and editing within scene transitions.  I would recommend this film for those who seek an alternative sense of terror while cuddled up cozy with your significant other.
