Indie Horror Short Film Review: CHOMP

Synopsis:  Millie is determined to prove to the world that’s she capture the first real zombie – even if he’s not one.

This is a short horror comedy that is written & directed by Lynne Hansen, which stars Susan O’Gara (Millie), Kyle Porter (Kyle), Ellah Durliat (Little Zombie Girl) and Joel D. Wynkoop (Dr. Jon Croft).  This short also features music by Claire and the Potatoes and Trevor Strong.

First off, I would like to say that this short film went in a direction that I was not at all expecting prior to viewing it.  The story was a very interesting concept and the thought of something like this type of situation happening has definitely crossed my mind before.  I also really enjoyed the effects used as I am a sucker for practical effects.

The film gave me a sort of “Troma” vibe, especially the character Millie.  She really reminded me of Lloyd Kaufman in “Terror Firmer” which gave me some nice reminiscent vibes.  The whole Dr. Jon Croft “Pitbulls and Zombie Hour” bit was really great!  I wish that was a real show because I would totally watch that!  I thought the ending was a nice little twist too which tied the film together very nicely.  The upbeat music during the end credits was a nice touch, it went really well with the whole tone of the movie.

All in all, this was a nice short watch and I would recommend this to fans of the horror comedy genre; as well as fans of gore films because there is some mild gore in this one.  I look forward to viewing more films by Lynne Hansen.
