SYNOPSIS OF “13 SINS”

A cryptic phone call sets off a dangerous game of risks for Elliot, a down-on-his luck salesman.  The game promises increasing rewards for completing 13 tasks, each more sinister than the last.

I had seen this movie on Netflix instant a few months ago but I didn’t give it much thought.  Most horror movies on Netflix instant are usually bad but I came across a really good review of this movie and decided to give it a shot.  I was surprisingly not disappointed!

I really like horror movies that are really scary and horror movies with a lot of dark humor.  I wouldn’t say this movie was scary but it had a lot of dark humor and was incredibly entertaining.  As I said in the synopsis, Elliot is down on his luck – about to get married, a child on the way, a father who is in a nursing home, and a mentally challenged brother who needs constant care.  One day, he receives a phone call that changes everything from him.  However, with random calls from strangers promising you massive amounts of money comes very severe consequences.  However, with the severe consequences comes some humorous moments – and a cameo from Ron Pearlman.

I’m not a huge fan of gore so luckily there wasn’t too much in this movie – but the scenes that did have gore were ridiculous and funny so it softened the blow a bit more.  Plus, the first real gory scene forces the main character to grow as a person and stand up for himself – not that that justifies his behavior.

There isn’t much more to say – if you are looking for a fun thriller I definitely recommend this movie.  I also recommend never following the advice of some creepy stranger on a phone who promises that your dreams will come true – that seems to never work out for anyone.  Here is my rating for “13 Sins”:

Concept Story: 1/2
Style/Effect:  1/2
Atmosphere:  1/2
Scares:  1/2
Rewatchability:  2/2
TOTAL:  6/10

I will give this movie a bonus of 2/2 points for humor.  I really enjoyed the humor and so didn’t my boyfriend, so good job “13 sins” you received an extra two points!  Don’t go to crazy or anything with those extra two points….
