WhedonCon 2017 Announces WhedonKnit Night to Assist Newborns in Need

WhedonCon 2017 is a charitable fan convention created by fans for fans.  The convention celebrates all things connected to Joss Whedon, from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Angel," and CABIN IN THE WOODS to DOLLHOUSE and DR. HORRIBLE SING-ALONG BLOG, and more. The convention seeks to bring together the fans of these fandoms to have fun and help local charities.

One of the charities that WhedonCon 2017 will continue to benefit is Newborns In Need (San Fernando Valley).  A 501(c)(3) agency, Newborns in Need provides much needed resources to premature, ill, or impoverished newborns through both monetary and material donations.

Newborns in Need collects and distributes handmade and store bought items to aid new families that struggle with premature babies or stillborn.  The organization is dedicated to making sure that teen mothers, stressed families, and overwhelmed parents have as much support as possible in the first moments of their child's life.

Donated handmade or store bought items are collected then distributed to local agencies, hospitals, and shelters serving pre-mature, ill and impoverished babies through the first year o life.

To assist Newborns in Need, WhedonCon 2017 is inviting knitters and crocheters of all skill levels to join them at several Southern California small businesses during certain nights to craft these much needed supplies.

For pure fun and the love of cosplay, WhedonCon is hosting a cosplay gathering and picnic on March 12, 2017 at Griffith Park from 1pm - 6pm.  This will also be a free event. Whedonverse cosplay is encouraged but all fandoms are welcomed.  Cosplay photographers, professional or amateur, are invited but must contact Toni Adams at tadams@fandomcharities.org.  This is to ensure that all photographers are accounted for and this will be a safe environment for all.
