The air is stale and the fluorescent lights flicker as I walk through a motel parking lot trying to find my car. Once I see it, I make my way over and open the passenger door before sitting inside. The car is small and compact, almost claustrophobic even and I could feel the weight of my worries hanging over me. I am Victor Hamlin and this is the start of Echo 1 / Inside My Soul.
As an intern at Ghostbusters you've made your fair share of coffee runs but this time you have been given a special assignment. VR haunted house? Where can I sign up? From the makers of the critically acclaimed Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, enter Nicodemus: Demon of Evanishment a high intensity virtual reality experience taken place at a haunted fair. Within the past year or so, studios have been working overtime to allow fans the chance to immerse themselves in the world of their creations. We've seen everything from It's Neibolt House to the complex sci-fi world of Ready Player One. However, while attending San Diego Comic-Con, I had the chance to step inside the world of one of my favorite television shows, MR. MERCEDES, based on the detective trilogy from horror master Stephen King.
Judgment day has come to the Irvine Spectrum, with the first terminator themed virtual reality experience in Southern California. For the past 20 years, the beloved franchise has been tapping into our fears of technology outgrowing its usefulness with catastrophic results. Spaces: Theme Park and Attractions gives you the opportunity to rage against the machines and foil the terminators' plan for world domination. Your objective is simple: break into Skynet, disable the satellite and save the world. But there's a catch, you must undergo a reversible procedure and transform into a terminator in order to break in undetected. You and three of your teammates have 15 minutes to complete the mission. Do you have what it takes?
There are few moments more terrifying in a human's life than those that forever alter how we think of ourselves. The moment when a boy is first called a man or a woman first learns she is pregnant, for instance, can spark an overwhelming rush of mixed emotions within us. We feel both excitement and fear, both joy and terror, all somehow in equal amounts and nearly paralyzing in their intensity.
As a child, I have always been fascinated by history, especially American history. And one of my favorite eras to study as a child was the Great Depression because it was so fundamentally different from the life we lead now. However, there are a couple of things that have remained the same no matter how much time has passed - the need for entertainment and love. Using the entertaining allure of the traveling circus in the 1930s as a backdrop, CoAct Productions’ THE SIDESHOW takes us through an intimate tale of love, betrayal, and - ultimately - forgiveness.
I had never imagined that my simple journey to find food in this giant Dust Bowl of a state would turn into something more. After entering the tent that would send me down a new and terrifying road, my hunger erupted into joking folly. I was sent into a tent by a minutely irritated soldier where I would first meet Phoebe Daring, but someone else was biding their time until the moment was right to bring forth an introduction. That someone was Ozma and, upon our first meeting, I felt a kinship that could fuel me more than food ever could.
What part of you do you keep at arms length? The part of you that is always yearning. The desires you can never seem to obtain. The part that is a constant struggle to accept. You find yourself locked outside of you a lot. Almost like your unconscious manifested into your reality, you find yourself standing on a street in Silver Lake locked out of your house again.
Welcome witches and warlocks,
I had the great pleasure of attending Fallen Saints: Dark by Force of Nature Productions and figured I would offer up some thoughts for my fellow theater enthusiasts. To best describe the story, I will use my own plot summary
If you were to tell me a few weeks ago that I would be attending a secret speakeasy pop-up, hosted by a slew of R-rated puppets, I would have laughed. Fast forward to yesterday where I found myself in the heart of Hollywood outside an establishment called, The InkHole. I'm sure you are wondering, what do puppets have to do with any of this, well, I'm here to blow your mind, because what I was about to experience was a pop-up in conjunction with the upcoming comedy THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS.
Shelby and Nick just broke up. They are confused, sad, angry, and hurt. How did something that started off so beautifully end up so horribly? Luckily, there is a solution: Closure Inc. is a new start up company that hires relationship analysts to review memories from newly broken up couples to determine where things went awry.
ONE LAST THING BEFORE YOU GO is a short, but emotional journey that will teach you about loss and grief with perhaps a dab of confusion. You are a newly departed spirit, wandering around with other lost souls just like you. But, as is sometimes the case, sometimes we are drawn away into something so much more than just ourselves. Unfortunately, because of the plot-heavy nature of the show, there isn’t too much I can reveal without ruining the many surprises that are in store.
People are generally familiar with the concept of fight or flight. I’m going to give a bare bones description. When we are confronted with an uncomfortable situation that raises our hackles, our nervous system starts to send messages to our adrenals to start creating adrenaline i.e. stress hormones. This prompts the flight or fight response. Now what would happen if we were given the option to choose whether or not a person should fight or run away? MB Stage Productions seeks to answer that in THE STUDY.
Since the beginning of time, human beings have been mired in existential angst. Questioning their purpose, life after death, their creator, and the meaning of it all. GOD: THE APOLOGIES TOUR plays on this intrinsic human desire towards looking beyond earthly life and searching for meaning in the dark.
