Event Recap: San Diego Comic-Con Preview Night and ScareDiego

This past Wednesday saw the start of my San Diego Comic-Con coverage with Preview Night. As this was my first time ever attending Comic-Con, I made sure my schedule touched upon everything from activations to panels to interviews, so that I could experience all the different elements that Comic-Con was known for.

Event Recap: The Portland Horror Film Festival 2018

Event Recap: The Portland Horror Film Festival 2018

The Portland Horror Film Festival is a 4-day festival of independent and international horror films that takes place in, you guessed it, Portland Oregon from June 13-16. I was lucky enough to take in the weekend with the Portland horror crew and even though I was only able to be there two days, it was definitely worth the journey!

Event Recap: Universal Studios Hollywood Present the DreamWorks Theater

When we were asked to cover the opening of the new Dreamworks Theater at Universal Studios Hollywood I didn’t know what to expect. I’d walked by Shrek 4D a million times but never experienced it because I can live without Shrek in my life. I was always afraid of the talking Donkey out front as well. Meet and Greets with something that can talk to me isn’t my thing, but I was excited to give the new Dreamworks theater a go…..and delighted to see that talking Donkey wasn’t there when I arrived.

Event Recap: Texas Frightmare Weekend 2018

Event Recap: Texas Frightmare Weekend 2018

Texas Frightmare Weekend 2018 terrified its way into horror-con goers hearts almost three weeks ago, so why did it take me until now to write about it? Well, I've only just touched back down in homeland Australia, and while the flight from Dallas to Sydney to Brisbane feels like it takes three weeks, it's only around 20 hours all up. So what's my excuse for unpunctuality? Well, boring stuff. My wife and I visited family and did some touristy things while we were in the US of A, and being on the road without a laptop made it hard to sit down and make words happen. But I'm making it up to you now.

Event Recap: Wondercon 2018

Event Recap: Wondercon 2018

Two weekends ago I had the chance to attend Wondercon, the sister convention to San Diego Comic Con, in Anaheim, CA. Filled with thousands of cosplayers, unique panels, interactive experiences, exciting vendors, and more, Wondercon appeals to all fandoms from Disney to horror. My first year attending I had found myself incredibly overwhelmed, but this year, I was able to navigate the exhibitors floor with ease while also attending some really exceptional panels.

INSIDIOUS: INTO THE FURTHER Event Celebrating the Home Release of INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY

INSIDIOUS: INTO THE FURTHER Event Celebrating the Home Release of INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY

On Tuesday night, I had the absolute pleasure of stepping into The Further for the home video release of the latest chapter in the INSIDIOUS franchise, INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY. While there, I had the chance to check out some of the actual props used in the film while also attending a special Q&A session with the cast and crew. Having been a fan of the series since it first debuted in 2010, the opportunity to sit in and listen to the cast speak about their experiences filming THE LAST KEY, is something that I will treasure for a long time.

INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY Paranormal Event

INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY Paranormal Event

Welcome witches and warlocks,

I had the great pleasure of attending the recent Insidious: Paranormal Event in Los Angeles and thought I would offer up some thoughts for my fellow horror fans.  The event was held to celebrate the digital release of INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY (2018) by inviting guests to have a nicely informal Q&A with the cast, take a spin on the Dearly Departed Tour, enter the haunted Oman House, and wound things down with some good old fashioned ghost hunting in LA’s famous American Legion Post 43.  It was a long evening that covered a lot of ground, so lock in as I try to give as concise of an overview as possible.

Event Recap: The Queen Mary's CHILL

Welcome witches and warlocks,

I was able to attend The Queen Mary's: CHILL this past week and thought I would offer up some thoughts on the event as a whole. Just so everyone knows where I am coming from; this is my first time attending this event, but I have seen pictures of previous year iterations and talked to others so I know what has come before. With my credentials out of the way, here is the theme for the proceedings:

Event Recap: DRUNKEN DEVIL: NIGHT OF 1,000 DEVILS

Welcome witches and warlocks,

I had the great pleasure of attending Drunken Devil: Night of 1,000 Devils over the weekend and figured I would offer up some thoughts.  This is my second event with the Drunken Devil family so some of this review will be using the past event as a point of comparison.  To best describe this iteration, I will turn to a modified version of the press release:

"Damian Bloodworth, mysterious Los Angeles socialite and suspected cult leader, invites you to his lavish Halloween party, where it soon becomes clear that no one is safe."

Event Recap: Unbound Productions Presents WICKED LIT

Event Recap: Unbound Productions Presents WICKED LIT

One of my favorite events of the Halloween season is without a doubt Unbound Productions Wicked Lit. From the moment I first attended two years ago, till now, I am continuously impressed with the passion and dedication of those involved in this production. This year, they tackled three new world premieres with Thoth’s Labyrinth, The Open Door, and The Damned Thing, as well as a brand new narrative frame, titled Liliom.

Event Recap: Warner Bros Studio Tour Hollywood Presents HORROR MADE HERE

Event Recap: Warner Bros Studio Tour Hollywood Presents HORROR MADE HERE

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the second year of Warner Bros Studios “Horror Made Here: Festival of Frights” event. Last year, guests had the chance to go on a tour of the studio specifically tailored to horror films and it ended up being an event that I absolutely loved, so you can imagine how excited I was when it was announced that Warner Bros would be continuing the event once again, only this time expanded so that it would be bigger, badder, and more frightful for us die-hard horror fans.

Event: Talk Like A Pirate Day Challenge

Event: Talk Like A Pirate Day Challenge

They say dead men tell no tales, but I'm alive and well, and I have at least one tale to share from this day. We crossed the seven seas (better known as the greater Los Angeles freeway system) to attend the Talk Like a Pirate Day Challenge event celebrating the 5th installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Dead Men Tell No Tales Digital and Blu-ray release September 19, 2017 and October 3, 2017, respectively.

Event Recap: Midsummer Scream's HALL OF SHADOWS

Event Recap: Midsummer Scream's HALL OF SHADOWS

With Halloween just around the corner, what better time then to gear up for haunt season. Halloween convention extraordinaire, Midsummer Scream, is known for their superb panels, special guests, as well as a deep love for the horror/haunt community. With that said, one of the best experiences during Midsummer Scream is their Hall of Shadows which features 11 mini-haunts that give guests a preview of what's to come during the best season of the year. The following is my review of each one (except for Dead Zone 805 as it wasn't open when I went through the haunts) with a brief description of what the haunt entails, courtesy of the Midsummer Scream website, and pictures to help get you in the mood for the Halloween season!

Event Recap: Midsummer Scream Presents 45 Years of Knott's Scary Farm

Event Recap: Midsummer Scream Presents 45 Years of Knott's Scary Farm

Welcome witches and warlocks,

Today I will be reviewing the Midsummer Scream panel 45 Years of Knott's Scary Farm. To best describe the conceit, I will turn to the official summary:

"Knott's Scary Farm's 45-year history is discussed by an epic panel of veteran cast and crew."

They were not kidding when they said they had an epic panel. Not only was this one of the few ninety minute presentations at the event, they also had twelve different guests, which is at least two times as many as any of the other panels. It was a lot to take in, but the format was so well executed that it made this approachable even to those who had never attended Knott's Scary Farm before.

Event Recap: Winchester Mystery House Presentation

Event Recap: Winchester Mystery House Presentation

Welcome witches and warlocks,

Today I will be reviewing the Midsummer Scream panel Winchester Mystery House Presentation. To best describe the conceit, I will turn to the official summary:

A look at Winchester's new tours and events and a discussion of the highly anticipated paranormal thriller "Winchester," due in theaters February 2018.

Event Review: Midsummer Scream Presents SIX FLAGS MAGIC MOUNTAIN FRIGHT FEST PRESENTATION

Event Review: Midsummer Scream Presents SIX FLAGS MAGIC MOUNTAIN FRIGHT FEST PRESENTATION

Welcome witches and warlocks,

Today I will be recapping the Midsummer Scream panel Six Flags Magic Mountain Fright Fest Presentation. To best describe the conceit, I will turn to the official summary:

"Find out what goes into making this sprawling Halloween event and what's in store for the upcoming season."
