Samuel Goldwyn Films has announced a scheduling change-up for the release of their recently acquired film, JUDY & PUNCH. Originally aiming for an April 24th release, the film will now be released in theaters and on VOD on June 5, 2020.
In the anarchic town of Seaside, nowhere near the sea, puppeteers Judy and Punch are trying to resurrect their marionette show. The show is a hit due to Judy’s superior puppeteering, but Punch’s driving ambition and penchant for whisky lead to an inevitable tragedy that Judy must avenge.
In a visceral and dynamic live-action reinterpretation of the famous 16th-century puppet show, writer-director Mirrah Foulkes turns the traditional story of Punch and Judy on its head and brings to life a fierce, darkly comic and epic female-driven revenge story.
The film stars Mia Wasikowska (Piercing, Crimson Peak), Damon Herriman (“Mr Inbetween”, “Secret City”), Terry Norris (Looking for Grace, Paper Planes), Gillian Jones (Mad Max: Fury Road, The Rover), Tom Budge (Gallipoli, Last Train to Feo), Benedict Hardie (Upgrade, Nekrotronic), and Lucy Velik (“Mr & Mrs Murder”, “The Ex-PM”).
The film is written and directed by Mirrah Foulkes (“Harrow”, Animal Kingdom). It is produced by Michele Bennett (The Magician, The Mule), Nash Edgerton (Gringo, The Gift), and Danny Gabai (Lords of Chaos, The Report). Executive producers on the film Natalie Farrey (Where the Wild Things Are, Her), Eddy Moretti (The Mountain, Waves of Grace), Lucy Punch (“Motherland”, “A Series of Unfortunate Events”), Tom Punch (“Beerland”, A-Z of Music), and Jennifer Semler (The Favourite, The Forest).
JUDY & PUNCH will now be released in theaters and on Video on Demand in the United States on June 5, 2020. Interested in knowing more about the film? Check out our review of the film HERE.
