News: Scripts Gone Wild to Tackle SCREAM

When alcohol calls, Scripts Gone Wild answers! After a rousing successful reading of Congo in May, L.A.’s drunkards of debauchery return with a reading of Wes Craven’s 1996 horror masterpiece, SCREAM, benefitting Hollywood Fringe Festival. Founded in 2010 by Ben Hill, Hollywood Fringe Festival takes place during the month of June on Hollywood’s theatre row, hosting 400+ shows and exposing L.A. theatre audience to a wide range of productions including ensemble theatre, immersive theatre, and solo performances.

Widely considered the greatest spec script ever written, Kevin Williamson’s screenplay for SCREAM is legendary and is a model for effective horror writing. Headlining the reading of that script for June is blogger, columnist, and media personality, Perez Hilton, best known as the creator and editor of the popular celebrity gossip website, PerezHilton.com. Hilton will be reading the role of “Randy”, the horror movie aficionado played by Jamie Kennedy in the film. Hilton joins a growing roster of headliners including: Joel McHale, Tracie Thoms, and Tom Everett Scott.

“We’re so excited to have Perez join us for this reading!” said Scripts Gone Wild founder and creative director, Billy Ray Brewton. “Scripts Gone Wild is so guerrilla and stripped down, raising money for Hollywood Fringe seemed like a no-brainer. And having Perez take on the role of “Randy” is a dream come true. Hold on to your butts, people! And also take note – this Scripts Gone Wild is on a Thursday night. But we’ll be back to Wednesdays in August!”

Sponsored by Mulholland Distilling and Q Mixers, all proceeds will benefit the Hollywood Fringe Festival, a non-profit. More casting will be announced in the coming weeks, which will include Hollywood Fringe Festival representatives, and actors from Fringe shows. “We want to bring together the most eclectic group of readers possible,” said Brewton. “In doing that, we really feel like we’re honoring the spirit of the charity we’re supporting this month.”

Scripts Gone Wild is a monthly script reading series which takes celebrities, filmmakers, and influencers, gives them a popular film script, and thrusts them head-first into a drinking game where they are penalized for line flubs and missed cues. As the readers make mistakes, and as the drinks pile up, the riotous nature of the event really starts to shine. Scripts are rarely finished and – when they are – they might just be a mess. The audience even gets in on the action and helps dictate just how ‘wild’ the evening gets!

SCRIPTS GONE WILD – SCREAM takes place Thursday June 27th at 8:00pm at El Cid on Sunset (4212 Sunset Blvd). VIP tickets are $20 and general admission tickets are $10 ($15 at the door). To participate in the shenanigans, follow Scripts Gone Wild on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook at @scriptsgonewild. For tickets and more information visit www.scriptsgonewild.com.
