On behalf of A24, we have the official trailer for MIDSOMMAR, the follow-up film from writer/director Ari Aster (Hereditary). The film will be released in theaters July 3, 2019.
I truly believe that nothing is as scary as when horror unfolds in broad daylight and in the case of MIDSOMMAR, it looks like we will be getting just that. From what I was able to gather from the trailer it looks as though whatever is in those glasses they drink may be causing some hallucinatory effects rendering the group of friends from truly understanding what is about to take place. All we know is that whatever IT is, it only happens every 90 years… I, for one, can’t wait to see what will unfold when the film is released this summer. Though the colors and story seem to be a departure from Aster’s first film, I have a feeling MIDSOMMAR is going to be just as destructive, in all the right ways, as Hereditary was.
The official synopsis is as follows: Dani (Florence Pugh) and Christian (Jack Reynor) are a young American couple with a relationship on the brink of falling apart. But after a family tragedy keeps them together, a grieving Dani invites herself to join Christian and his friends on a trip to a once-in-a-lifetime midsummer festival in a remote Swedish village. What begins as a carefree summer holiday in a land of eternal sunlight takes a sinister turn when the insular villagers invite their guests to partake in festivities that render the pastoral paradise increasingly unnerving and viscerally disturbing.
From the visionary mind of Ari Aster comes a dread-soaked cinematic fairytale where a world of darkness unfolds in broad daylight.
MIDSOMMAR stars Florence Pugh (The Falling), Jack Reynor (Free Fire), William Jackson Harper (The Good Place), Vilhelm Blomgren, Archie Madekwe (Les Misérables), Ellora Torchia (The Split), and Will Poulter (The Little Stranger). This summer, let the festivities begin!
