Boston Underground Film Festival Review: COWBOY CASTLE (2017)

Sometimes I come across a film that I genuinely have a hard time following. COWBOY CASTLE is a great example of this.

It’s easy to see that it was surely an art piece. It follows a visual narrative through animation and some text woven in to give context and explanation of the story, to which I was very unclear on. I could gather that the short was about a place called Cowboy Castle and that rumors had been spread about this place. What the rumors were, I wasn’t sure; however, I continued to be intrigued by the film in my attempt to follow this short.

I was highly appreciative of the use of brightly colored animations over the blurred and obscure cinematography displayed in the background. I also really enjoyed the soundtrack which was simple. Sounds of birds and nature were laid out elegantly in the background of this short.

Overall, as I had mentioned, I had a difficult time following the short. However, don’t let this deter you from checking out this short because it’s clearly a piece of living art, it just wasn’t my cup of tea.
