'Mister Sam Shearon's Creepy Christmas: A Merry Macabre Coloring Book' Now Unnerving Gift Givers

Vesuvian Media Group today announced the release of "Mister Sam Shearon's Creepy Christmas: A Merry Macabre Coloring Book" exclusively on Amazon.com for a limited time.  This festive feast of fear, containing 40 original hand-drawn and inked illustrations, is the utmost guide to a variety of creepy and unnerving creatures steeming from traditional beliefs and legends from around the world.  Each fearsome and festive colorable page is accompanied by a poem to bring characters to life such as Krampus, Grýla, Santa Claws, Rabid Rudolph, the Grimace Tree, the Wendigo, the Snow Bear, the Yule Cat, the Abominable Snowman, and many more.

The coloring book is the creation of Sam Shearon, also known as "Mister-Sam".  He is a British, dark-artist specializing in horror and science-fiction.  His artwork can be found on a variety of books and comic covers, including illustrations for the "Angel series," "30 Days of Night," "The X-Files," "KISS," "Mars Attack," "Judge Dredd," "Aleister Arcane," "Richard Matheson: Master of Horror," the fully illustrated "H.P. Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu," "Marvel Illustrated: The Picture of Dorian Gray," and Clive Barker's "Hellraiser," and "Books of Blood".  He has also created illustrations for artists and bands such as: Jason Charles Miller, Rammstein, Rob Zombie, Biohazard, Fear Factory, Powerman 5000, HIM, American Head Charge, and A Pale Horse Named Death.

"Delving deep into the snowy history of winter folklore, I've found that this season is indeed much darker than autumn and ultimately...more sinister than Halloween," said Sam Shearon.  "I hope that through my illustrations and poems, readers will feel and discover the ancient Christmas magic that once brought people together around the fire to tell stories of monsters, spirits and woodland creatures to be wary of, in winter, the season of death."

The happiest time of the year is also the creepiest.  Winter has an even darker and richer lore than Halloween.  For centuries, people have feared creatures from ancient legends born of this time of year.  Tales such as giant hairy monsters who live in the mountains and will snatch you up and eat you were used to ensure children didn't wander off in the snow and become lost. These were indeed just stories...or were they?

"Mister Sam Shearon's Creepy Christmas: A Merry Macabre Coloring Book" will also be available in person as Stan Lee's Los Angeles Comic-Con October 28th through 30th.  Sam will be making appearances at the Squid Black Entertainment with Vesuvian Media Booth (ET17) to sign copies of the coloring book as well as visit with fans.  For more information on Sam Shearon, please visit http://www.mister-sam.com/.

Don't Miss FOUND FOOTAGE 3D at Screamfest October 26th at TLC Chinese Theaters

Festival hit FOUND FOOTAGE 3D has its L.A. premiere
Wednesday October 26th at 7PM!
Watch the trailer in 2D HERE or 3D HERE!

Winner of seven awards, including the Jury Award at
Bruce Campbell's Horror Film Festival 2016.  Daily
Dead calls the film "one of the best 3D Experiences
I've had in a theater".  Bloody Disgusting declares it
"a modern indie gem that really, really deserves a
place among the greats".

When he's hired to document the behind-the-scenes action of the ultra-low budget horror movie Spectre of Death ("the first 3D found-footage horror film"), an aspiring filmmaker packs up his camera and travels with the film's crew to a creepy cabin in the woods.  But when the fictional evil presence from their film begins appearing in his behind-the-scenes footage, he has to figure out how to stop it, or it just may find its way into the real world.

In the same way that SCREAM deconstructed the slasher sub-genre in the 90s, FF3D takes a found-footage horror movie and populates it with people who are aware of all of the rules, tricks, and cliches of the genre.  They know how to make a found footage movie.  But do they know how to survive one?

Written and directed by Steven DeGennaro.  Produced by DeGennaro, Charles Mulford and Kim Henkel.  Co-produced by Scott Weinberg, David Kassin Fried and Randi R. Ludwig.  The film stars Carter Roy, Alena von Stroheim, Chris O'Brien, Tom Saporito, Scott Allen Perry, Jessica Perrin and Scott Weinberg.

Teaser Trailer for L. Gustavo Cooper's THE HOME

One of the best shorts that I have seen all year, THE HOME, has been garnering some solid buzz on the festival circuit.  Coming off well received screenings at Fantastic Fest, Brooklyn Horror Film Festival and the Telluride Horror Show, the film, directed by JUNE filmmaker L. Gustavo Cooper, has now been developed into a feature.

Peter Cilella took up writing duties on the script, developing it with Cooper.  Veteran genre producers Alix Taylor (MANIAC, IN A VALLEY OF VIOLENCE) and Nick Phillips (PET, STRAW DOGS) will be producing.  While the feature is coming together, audiences will have the chance to see this chilling short film in the very near future.

To whet your appetite in the interim, here is a teaser trailer for THE HOME!

Telluride Horror Show: Secret Sundays Shows and Creepy Campfire Tales

Telluride Horror Show may be over but the effects of one of the most up-and-coming horror film festivals is felt throughout the country.  Over the weekend, Telluride once again pulled out the big guns and wow'd festival goers with their Secret Sunday Shows.  On the docket were three films that have been talked about extensively throughout the genre.  These included the highly anticipated THE AUTOPSY OF JANE, the controversial RAW and the up-and-coming SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD. These films each had their Colorado Premieres at Telluride and were screened at the Sheridan Opera House and The Nugget Theatre.

This film, directed by Andre Ovredal, stars Brian Cox and Emilie Hirsch, who play father and son coroners who receive a mysterious homicide victim with no apparent cause of death.  As they attempt to identify the beautiful young "Jane Doe," they discover increasingly bizarre clues that hold the key to her terrifying secret.

This controversial film, which has caused some people to faint, is directed by Julian Ducournau and centers around a young vegetarian who undergoes a carnivorous hazing ritual at vet school resulting in an unbidden taste for meat which continues to grow in her.

A film that has been garnering major attention in the festival circuit is directed by Chris Peckover and stars the talented Virginia Madsen and Patrick Warburton.  On a quiet suburban street tucked within a 'safe neighborhood', a babysitter must defend a twelve-year-old boy from strangers breaking into the house, only to discover that this is FAR FROM a normal home invasion.

In conjunction with these Secret Sunday Shows, Telluride Horror Show had their first Creepy Campfire Tales over a bonfire in Elk's Park during the first night of the festival.  Here, author Joe R. Lansdale read excerpts from his work to pass-holders and public.

Telluride Horror Show once again was a huge success as they showed their devotion for the genre with packed houses, exciting events, and up-and-coming horror films.  Though the weekend is over, it doesn't mean that Telluride Horror Show is done as we know they will be working tirelessly for an even bigger and better in 2017!

Ithaca Fantastik Announces Full Lineup for 2016 Edition!

Ithaca Fantastik will unleash its fifth annual film festival Nov. 9 - 13 in Ithaca, NY.  The IF team has carefully crafted a lineup to offer something for every fantastic film lover.

The festival has horror fans covered, with some of the year's stand-out genre gems.  Fantastic Fest award winner "The Autopsy of Jane Doe" (André Orvedal) will lead the pack, followed closely by the "knock your socks-off", "Safe Neighborhood" (Chirs Peckover) - a coming of age twist on home invasion that the IF team calls one of the most fun films of 2016.  Horror lovers will be delighted by action-packed "Headshot" (Kimo Stamboel, Timo Tjahjanto), socially-infused zombie anime "Seoul Station" (Yeon Sang-ho), disturbing "Pet" (Carles Torrens), as well as an over-the-top Indian take on a zombie breakout: "Miruthan" (Shakti Soundar Rajan).

Extreme horror will be well-represented with yakuza tale "Kiyamachi Daruma" (Hideo Sakaki), and "K-Shop" (Dan Pringle), a fun horror film with deeply-anchored social commentary on British society.  Plus, the wickedly fun Japanese response to Freddy vs. Jason: "Sadako vs Kayako" (Kōji Shiraishi).

Festival offerings will go far beyond pure horror to provide a wide view into the fantastic genre. From enchanting love story "Aloys" (Tobias Nölle), to mental-illness-exploring biopic "I, Olga Hepnarová" (Tomas Weinreb, Petr Kazda), to mumblecore horror comedy "Another Evil" (Carson D. Mell) and Argentinean horror commentary "Terror 5" (Sebastian Rotstein, Federico Rotstein). Sci-Fi fans have not been forgotten; IF will present mind-blowing anime "Nova Seed" (Nick DiLiberto) and the newest trippy film from Hikaru Tsukuda: Return of MIZUNO - these movies will be an excellent segway into horror for those new to the genre.

For its fifth year, IF will continue to bring the best in documentaries to upstate NY. "24x36: A Movie About Movie Posters" (Kevin Burke) will open the festivities.  The reality continues with an intimate take on Stanley Kubrick: "S is for Stanley" (Alex Infascelli), as well as "Creature Designers: The Frankenstein Complex" (Gilles Penso, Alexandre Poncet) - an enlightening look at special effects history with interviews from masters like Phil Tippett, Rick Baker and Guillermo del Toro.  Finally, with a perfect mix between feature film and documentary, "Belief: The Possession of Janet Moses" (David Stubbs) mind-blowingly blurs the lines between reality and fiction in this account of a New Zealand exorcism.

For filmmakers, the Nature's Revenge bumper contest submission deadline has been extended to Oct. 30.

This year's bumper contest will draw from the theme of retrospective film "Long Weekend," which proves nothing is scarier than unpredictable nature.  Filmmakers are invited to submit their own original nature revenge short film to IF by Oct. 30.

How to Submit
Use wetransfer.com to submit to hbarbier@ithacafilmfestival.com.  Type NATURE'S REVENGE IF in the message section.

Contest Rules:
1. The film must be no more than 45 seconds,
2. The twist should involve nature taking revenge on humans for their acts against mother nature.

The IF team can't wait to see what the beautifully twisted minds of seasoned and aspiring filmmakers will come up with.  The top three entries will be screened during the festival, and winners will receive an Ithaca Fantastik festival pass.

First Image of Ted Geoghegan's Highly Anticipated Film MOHAWK Released

In preparation for the release of Ted Geoghegan's highly anticipated film MOHAWK, we have received the first official still.  The film, currently in post production, will be part of MPI's international sales slate at this year's American Film Market (AFM).

The film centers around a Mohawk warrior who finds herself pursued by a battalion of military renegades bent on revenge after one of her tribe sets an American camp ablaze.  Fleeing deep into the woods they call home, Oak and Calvin, along with their British companion Joshua, must now fight back against the bloodthirsty Colonel Holt and his soldiers - using everything the new labyrinthine forest can offer.

The film, directed by Ted Geoghegan (WE ARE STILL HERE) stars Kaniehtiio Horn ("Hemlock Grove"), Jonathan Huber (WWE Superstar Luke Harper), Eamon Farren ("Twin Peaks 2017"), Justin Rain (THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE) and Noah Segan (STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII).

FEEDING TIME to premiere this month at KHFF and Screamfest LA

There are so many great things happening this month on the Indie horror front, and one we're particularly excited about is the world premiere of FEEDING TIME, a new short film written and directed by Matt Mercer.  FEEDING TIME will premiere at the Knoxville Horror Film Festival on October 21st, 2016, and at Screamfest, LA on October 23, 2016.

After receiving a cancellation text from a friend, Sasha (Stacy Snyder) agrees to take her place for a babysitting position.  A seemingly easy night's work for some rather eccentric parents (played by Graham Skipper and Najarra Townsend) quickly turns into a dangerous turn of events.  There's something not quite right about this spooky old house...

The film boasts many recognizable faces and talents from the horror world, including actors Graham Skipper (THE MIND'S EYE, ALMOST HUMAN, BEYOND THE GATES) and Najarra Townsend (CONTRACTED, THE STYLIST), with an atmospheric synth score by the talented Steve Moore (THE GUEST, THE MIND'S EYE) and special make up effects by Josh and Sierra Russell (SOUTHBOUND, THE DEVIL'S DOLLS).

"We're honored to be included in the dynamic lineup of these two outstanding festivals," says Mercer.  "We literally just finished post on the film, and kicking off with screenings at two awesome festivals that really revere the genre and do things right is a dream."

Mercer's no stranger to the genre, having acted in features such as THE MIND'S EYE, BEYOND THE GATES, BROWSE, PSYCHOPATHS, and MADISON COUNTY.  As a filmmaker, he co-produced and acted in Eric England's CONTRACTED (IFC), a hit that garnered a sequel CONTRACTED: PHASE II (in which Matt returned in the lead role).  Mercer also directed the feature YOU OR A LOVED ONE, due this November from Indiecan Entertainment, and several other genre-driven shorts.

Momentum Pictures Takes on Darren Bousman's "ABATTOIR"

Set to Release Dec. 9, 2016

Momentum Pictures announced today that it has acquired North American rights to the horror film "ABATTOIR," which is set to release in theaters, VOD and Digital HD on Dec. 9, 2016. Written by Christopher Monfette ("12 Monkeys") and directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (The SAW Series), the film stars Jessica Lowndes (THE PRINCE), Joe Anderson (HERCULES), Lin Shaye (INSIDIOUS Series) and Dayton Callie ("Sons of Anarchy").  Momentum Pictures' Senior Vice President of Content Ian Goggins made the announcement today.

"We're fans of Darren Bousman's body of work in the horror genre so we couldn't be more thrilled to work with him on 'ABATTOIR,'" said Goggins.  "The film has unique twists and turns that will leave audiences at the edge of their seats."

"ABATTOIR has been a labor of love for all of us involved," said Bousman.  "It is an honor to partner with a distribution team who not only understands the genre, but are actual fans of it."

Based on the Radical Publishing 6-issue comic book mini-series created by Bousman, "ABATTOIR" world-premiered at this year's Los Angeles Film Festival in the Nightfall section and has screened in a dozen festivals this summer, winning Best in Festival at the Hot Springs Horror Festival.

The film centers on a real estate reporter (Jessica Lowndes) who unearths an urban legend about a house being built from rooms where horrific tragedies have occurred.  The investigation ultimately leads her and ex-lover Detective Declan Grady (Joe Anderson) to the enigmatic Jebediah Crone (Dayton Callie) and the answer to the question, "How do you build a haunted house?"

"ABATTOIR" is produced by Jesse Berger (OBLIVION) and Brent C. Johnson ("Lost in American") under Radical Studios' genre label Dark Web Productions.  Billy Hines serves as Co-Producer.  The film is executive produced by Lynwood Spinks, Kevin Niu, Robert Cain, Michael Yedwab, Steve Ponce, and Trevor Allen.  ABATTOIR was financed by Lumenova Entertainment, Pacific Bridge Pictures and Ingenious Media.

The deal was negotiated on behalf of Momentum Pictures by Sejin Croninger, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Acquisitions for Entertainment One, and by Verve Ventures and Rosen Law Group on behalf of the filmmakers.

Bousman is represented by Verve, Andrew Wilson at Zero Gravity Management and Tanya Mallean at Skrzyniarz & Mallean.

Momentum Pictures is focused on distributing multiplatform film, television and special interest content in the U.S. and around the world.

Australia's Monster Fest Announces 2016 Short Film Selection and Juries!

Australia's premier genre film festival is back Nov. 24-27, 2016 and has just revealed this year's mammoth selection of 49 short films, making a significantly increased commitment to short films from previous years.

Monster Fest shorts programmers Alexandra Heller-Nicholas, Catherine Seccombe and Hussein Khoder vetted hundreds of short films to bring you the most spellbinding, raucous and confronting shorts that coursed through the veins of the festival circuit this year, as well as several homegrown discoveries we can't wait to unveil for you.  Monster Fest offers three short film programs this year: Night Gallery (our horror program), We Walk Alone (our vanguard program) and - as always - the return of Dick Dale's beloved Trasharama program!

"Short films are that most precious of cultural artefact," says Heller-Nicholas, "bite sized pieces of art that reveal in mere minutes what a filmmaker is really made of.  We have had the most extraordinary privilege this year of seeing some of the most creative, passionate, origial and inventive films of the year from both established filmmakers and emerging new talents, the diversity of which proves once and for all that cinema is far from dead: it is thriving, alive, and ready to rip your exceptions apart limb from limb."

All films making their World, International or Australian premieres at the festival are part of the Official Competition, and are eligible for multiple awards, including Best Victorian Short, which is awarded $10,000 in post-production prizes from Gearhead, Roar Digital and Backlot Studios.  All shorts - regardless of premiere status - are eligible for the 'Monster's Choice' Audience Award.

We are also pleased to announce our juries for the 2016 festival:

Evrim Ersoy - Head Programmer, Fantastic Fest
Simon Foster - Film Critic, ABC-FM, Fairfax Media, Screen-Space
Donna McRae - Director, JOHNNY GHOST, the forthcoming KATE KELLY

Barbara Creed - Author, The Monstrous-Feminine: Film, Feminism, Psychoanalysis
Amanda Reyes - Film and TV historian, Made for TV Mayhem

Season Three of "Black Sails" begins in the wake of the burning of Charles Town.  All the New World lives in fear of Captain Flint.  When his campaign of terror crosses over into madness, and new threats emerge to challenge his supremacy, it falls to John Silver to locate the man within the monster, before Flint's war against the world consumes them all.  Meanwhile, on the pirate island of Nassau, it's a new day.  With Eleanor Guthrie facing judgment in London, Jack Rackham sits atop a fortune in Spanish gold, hoping to secure his legacy as a king among thieves.  To do so, he'll have to compete with the return of one of history's most notorious captains, who holds a different vision for their home, as well as a complicated past with Rackham's chief ally, Captain Charles Vane.  All will be tested when a new opponent arrives to claim Nassau, one the pirates could never have anticipated.  It knows them.  It understands them.  And in the blink of an eye, it will do the one thing they never thought possible...turn them against each other.

"BLACK SAILS: THE COMPLETE THIRD SEASON" will be available on Blu-ray + Digital HD with Ultraviolent and DVD from Anchor Bay Entertainment on November 8, 2016 for a suggested retail price of $59.99 and $49.98 respectively.  The DVD and Blu-ray will have over 40 minutes of special features including 10 minutes of new exclusive content!

Trailer Premiere: LAST GIRL STANDING Comes to Digital HD + DVD on 11/1

The Pulse-Pounding First Feature by Benjamin R. Moody Comes to
Digital HD and DVD on November 1, 2016

Classic slasher films often feature a young, usually female hero who alone manages to survive the carnage - but the films end there without showing the lasting effect the trauma has on that hero. The gripping new film LAST GIRL STANDING takes things that one step further, revealing the ongoing horror of life after near death.  It arrives on DVD and digital platforms on November 1, 2016.

Five years ago, a masked killer brutally murdered a group of friends.  Since then, Camryn, the lone survivor, has struggled to reclaim her shattered life.  Wracked with guilt and paranoia, Camryn leads a depressingly lonely existence until Nick, a new co-worker, befriends her and attempts to integrate her into his group of friends.

But just when she might be ready to start a new life, Camryn's past comes back to haunt her.  Can she ever have a life again, or is she destined to be alone?

Part slasher movie, part character study, LAST GIRL STANDING is the impressive feature debut of writer-director Benjamin R. Moody, whose widely seen short films include "Skyrim Intervention" and "A Very Arkham City Christmas."  It's a penetrating and intimate look at what happens to the survivors of nightmares that seem to come straight from horror movies.

The vibrant cast includes Akasha Villalobos (Now Hiring, the upcoming Camera Obscura) as Camryn, Danielle Evon Ploeger (Wind & Rain), Brian Villalobos (Saratoga Lights) and Jason Vines (The Man From Orlando.

LAST GIRL STANDING had its world premiere at London's FrightFest, and Akasha Villalobos won as Best Actress at both the New York City Horror Film Festival and Tucson Terrorfest. "A captivating depiction of survivor's guilt and post-traumatic stress, and a very entertaining movie," wrote Luiz H.C. at Bloody-disgusting.com.  Fangoria's Ken W. Hanley said LAST GIRL STANDING "offers one of the most engrossing subversions on the genre in quite some time." Nerdly's Phil Wheat called it "a new take on the slasher genre."
