RLJ Entertainment Acquires Paul Schrader's "DOG EAT DOG"

"A thoroughly disreputable, sordid and engaging crime drama." - The Hollywood Reporter

RLJ Entertainment has acquired all North American rights to the highly anticipated action thriller DOG EAT DOG.  Based on the novel by Edward Bunker, DOG EAT DOG was written by Matthew Wilder (YOUR NAME HERE) and directed by Paul Schrader (AFFLICTION, AMERICAN GIGOLO, TAXI DRIVER).  The film stars Nicolas Cage (SNOWDEN, LEAVING LAS VEGAS), Willem Dafoe (JUSTICE LEAGUE, PLATOON) and Christopher Matthew Cook (2 GUNS).  The film first premiered at the 69th Cannes Film Festival to great reviews and will have its North American premiere at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival in September.  At a press event in Cannes, Schrader described DOG EAT DOG as "nasty, evil and a lot of fun."

The deal was negotiated by Mark Ward on behalf of RLJ Entertainment and Mark Earl Burman of ADME on behalf of the filmmakers.  RLJE plans to release DOG EAT DOG in theaters and On Demand in November 2016.  Ward, RLJE's Chief Acquisitions Officer, made the announcement today.

"The legendary Paul Schrader once again uses his relentless talent and vision to create amazing cinema," said Ward.  "Shot with a distinct point-of-view, Cage and Dafoe bring their absolute best to showcase the rawness and grittiness of this incredible film."

DOG EAT DOG tells the story of three ex-cons who botch a kidnapping.  They not only lose a rich payoff, but they get on the wrong side of the mob and become the city's most wanted fugitives. Vowing to stay out of prison at all costs, things get completely out of control as they go on the run from everyone.

DOG EAT DOG is produced by Mark Earl Burnman (SOUTH BUREAU HOMICIDE), Gary Hamilton (LORD OF WAR), Brian Beckmann (THE COURIER), and David Hillary (LONDON) and is executive produced by Jeremy Rosen (THE FAMILY), Jeff Caperton (PIRANHA SHARKS), Barney Burman (TROPIC THUNDER), Ray Mansfield (AND SO IT GOES), Shaun Redick (AND SO IT GOES), Donald Rivers (PIRANHA SHARKS), Michael McClung (ZOMBIEFIELD), and Tim Peternel (LONDON).  Jeanne Fields acted as executor of the Edward Bunker estate.

HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER Restored in 4K Comes to Theaters in October

The Acclaimed Thriller, Starring Michael Rooker of 'The Walking Dead,' Will Receive a Red-Carpet Premiere Followed by Release in 20 Cities Beginning October 21, 2016

"As fine a film as it is a brutally disturbing one." - Sheila Benson, Los Angeles Times

It was a true game-changer, a film so upsetting in its blunt depiction of an amoral murderer that it made the slasher films of its time look like cartoons by comparison.  HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER became a lightning rod in heated debates about cinema and censorship but has only grown in stature since its first showing in 1986.  Now, on the 30th anniversary of its momentum debut, it returns in a 4K restoration rerelease nationwide via Dark Sky Films, with major theatrical engagements to begin on October 21, 2016.

The film will come "home" on October 14, 2016, as Dark Sky partners with the Chicago International Film Festival for a large-scale event including a festival red-carpet premiere and a Q&A with star Michael Rooker and director John McNaughton in attendance.

HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER is a chilling profile of a cold-blooded killer that, 30 years after its historic festival premiere, has lost none of its power to shock.  The film, loosely based on a true story, has been hailed as one of the most disturbing and terrifying examinations of mass murderers ever filmed.  Henry (Michael Rooker, The Walking Dead) is a pyschopathic drifter who has coldly murdered a number of people for no particular reason and without any remorse. Leaving bodies in his wake, Henry makes his way to Chicago, where he settles into the run-down apartment of his drug-dealing former prison friend and occasional roommate Otis (Tom Towles).

Also moving into the space is Otis's younger sister Becky (Tracy Arnold), who is fleeing her abusive husband.  As she fends off her brother's incestuous advances, Becky finds herself attracted to Henry - unaware that he, along with Otis, are continuing their murderous rampage.

Director John McNaughton completed the film in 1986, and it was shown at that year's Chicago Interntational Film Festival.  But it wasn't until 1990 that a U.S. distributor was brave enough to give it a wide release.  Henry predates the NC-17 rating and received its predecessor, the X rating, on three separate occasions.  As a result of it and related issues with Almodovar's "Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down," Phillip Kaufman's "Henry & June" and Peter Greenaway's "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover," the MPAA created the NC-17 as its replacement on 9/26/1990. Henry's current rating is "X (Surrendered)" though a renewed rating is pending.  The film's violence, and the clinical, detached portrayal of Henry by the unforgettable Michael Rooker, originally earned it the MPAA's highly restrictive NC-17 rating.

The response from both critics and the public was as visceral as the film itself, and it went on to gain praise as one of the most compelling and disturbing films of modern cinema.

In celebration of its 30th anniversary, HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER returns with a thrilling, cinematic presentation that cements its reputation as one of the most harrowing and original American films of all time.  Dark Sky Films, a division of MPI Media Group, proudly presents it in a brand-new 4K scan and restoration from the 16mm original camera negatives, and featuring a new 5.1 audio mix from the stereo 35mm mag reels, all approved by director John McNaughton.

HENRY opens in New York on October 21, McNaughton will attend the film's New York premiere, at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema and on October 28, McNaughton will present it at the Laemmle NoHO in Los Angeles.

A whole new generation of filmgoers will be introduced to HENRY with an amazing new transfer that puts the film firmly back into the vanguard of contemporary cinematic horror. Daniel M. Kimmel of Variety wrote "[T]his is a movie that will anger and frighten audiences...Many will also find this one of the most impressive film debuts of the '80s."

Legendary Horror Director Tom Holland Set to Helm 'ROCK PAPER DEAD'

Holland joins genre dream team that includes Emmy-nominated Vincent Guastini, Victor Miller, and Harry Manfredini

Filmmaker Tom Holland (FRIGHT NIGHT, CHILD'S PLAY) is set to direct ROCK PAPER DEAD, it was announced today by the film's producers, Amy Williams, Victor Miller and Kerry Fleming. Holland will be joined by a horror dream team of talent that includes Emmy-nominated Vincent Guastini (REQUIM FOR A DREAM, "Saturday Night Live"), who will provide special makeup effects, along with the film's co-writer Victor Miller (FRIDAY THE 13) and composer Harry Manfredini (FRIDAY THE 13).  The highly anticipated genre film will start shooting in Los Angeles this September with a 2017 release date.

ROCK PAPER DEAD is the story of serial killer Peter "The Doll Maker" Harris, who returns to his ancestral family estate after being released from the state's hospital for the criminally insane after twenty years - a "cured" man.  Once inside the old house, anguished memories from a tortured childhood and visitations from past victims shake Peter's resolve, but it isn't until the lovely young Ashley enters his life that Peter makes a fateful decision.  One that rekindles old desires that have always ended in murder.

Tom Holland is an acclaimed writer and director known for some of the best horror films of our time, including the iconic CHILD'S PLAY and the legendary vampire classic FRIGHT NIGHT.  Other credits include PSYCHO II, and numerous Stephen King adaptations, including THINNER and THE LANGOLIERS, as well as several episodes of "Tales from the Crypt" and "Masters of Horror."

Vincent Guastini will provide the special makeup effects, including a line of "serial killer" inspired dolls and masks based on the film.  The dolls will be from the film's serial killer's collection of victim dolls and represent each victim shown in the film.  Vincent will also be creating creepy death masks that will also be seen in the film.  These items are then going to be part of an entire line of film-inspired merchandise items that will be available in stores around the time of the film's expected release in theaters right before Halloween 2017.

Guastini trained under the legendary Hollywood make-up artist Dick Smith.  His credits include THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS, REQUIEM FOR A DREAM, and "Saturday Night Live," for which he received an Emmy nomination.

Producer Amy Williams said, "I'm a connoisseur of this genre as most who know me know it's my favorite.  I'm a huge fan of Victor Miller and was beyond excited and totally honored to come on board to produce this project.  Our team is just incredible; Tom Holland is a legend and I love his work so much."

Rounding out the list of genre legends on the project are co-writer Victor Miller who wrote the original FRIDAY THE 13th and composer Harry Manfredini, who scored the original FRIDAY THE 13.  Kerry Fleming is the co-writer and Amy Williams (MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS) is producing.  Fleming and Miller are also producing as well with Guastinin a co-producer.

Universal Studios' Halloween Horror Nights Partners w/ Eli Roth & Crypt TV to Unveil an All-New "Terror Tram" Experience!

Universal Studios Hollywood Partners with Horror Filmmaker Eli Roth and Crypt TV
to Unveil an All-New "Terror Tram" Experience Where Killer Clowns Run Amok
at Universal Studios as Part of this Year's Terrifying "Halloween Horror Nights,"
Beginning Friday, September 16

CLICK HERE for a Look at the Nightmare that Awaits!

Horror auteur Eli Roth ("HOSTEL") and his digital network Crypt TV take the helm of the infamous "Terror Tram," marking the first time ever that the signature attraction comes to life through the twisted mind of the filmmaker, as part of this year's "Halloween Horror Nights" at Universal Studios Hollywood, which kicks off Friday, September 16, 2016.

"Eli Roth Presents Terror Tram" will expose guests to the fabled legacy of serial killer clown "Hollywood Harry," the story of a former jovial celebrity clown turn depraved murderer, and teh minefield of carnage he left behind.

“I’m thrilled to be part of ‘Halloween Horror Nights’ again,” said Eli Roth. “We wanted to completely fabricate an original story that brings together our absolute freakiest, scariest most disturbing ideas.  The ‘Halloween Horror Nights’ team is the best in the business. Their production and execution is unmatched and I know this ‘Terror Tram’ experience will blow away all expectations, and haunt guests for the rest of their lives.  ‘Halloween Horror Nights is the must-see event for any horror movie fan—it’s like the Super Bowl for scary movies, and is my favorite event of the year.”

The all-new “Terror Tram” experience will tell the sordid tale of former Angeleno resident Harold Kappowitz whose alter ego “Koodles the Clown” went from cheerful circus performer, to the lovable star of his own children’s network television show…before he was overcome by his genuine “killer instincts.”

By the 1990s, hard knocks took a deadly toll on Kappowitz, and the onetime endearing clown found himself exiled by the very Hollywood entertainment community that once adored him. With an all-consuming anger and hatred, Kappowitz—a now crazed and disheveled recluse—took refuge from society by hiding out at Universal Studios, emerging as notorious serial killer clown, “Hollywood Harry.”  Recurring murders began to dominate the studio, as “Hollywood Harry” drew strength from recruiting other outcast former clowns who, together, took revenge on Studio Tour guides and visitors alike, ceremoniously killing them, and leaving behind a deadly trail of terror.

“The goal of ‘Halloween Horror Nights’ is to create the most intense, most memorable and ultimately, the most terrifying experiences for our guests,” said John Murdy, Creative Director at Universal Studios Hollywood and Executive Producer of “Halloween Horror Nights.” “And there is no better partner than Eli Roth to deliver unabashed horror that’s so real you can feel it. We were fortunate to work with Eli years ago on his original ‘Hostel’ themed maze, so we can only imagine the terror that he’s envisioning.”

A series of short form content, produced by Crypt TV in conjunction Universal Studios Hollywood, aired on the digital horror network to tease the story of “Hollywood Harry” and create momentum for the announcement reveal of “Eli Roth Presents Terror Tram.”
Unique to Universal Studios Hollywood, the “Terror Tram” invites “Halloween Horror Nights” guests to walk along a portion of the movie and television studio where such sets as the Psycho House and the Bates Motel from Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller, and Steven Spielberg’s “War of the Worlds,” are located.

Crypt TV is a digital studio that creates original genre content guided by its motto #WEIRDISGOOD aimed at uniting fans and creating a movement that redefines what the future of horror content means to millennials. Since their 2015 launch, Crypt TV has become the fastest growing leader in digital scares with 20 million video views per month. Crypt TV was co-founded by Jack Davis and Eli Roth and has a strategic partnership with Blumhouse Productions.

"Halloween Horror Nights" at Universal Studios Hollywood brings together the sickest minds in horror to immerse guests in a living, breathing, three-dimensional world of terror.  Featuring an all-new slate of unrivaled film production quality mazes, frightful scare zones and a fully re-imagined “Terror Tram” experience uniquely themed to today’s most definitive horror properties, “Halloween Horror Nights” will taunt, terrorize and torment guests with spine-chilling haunted attractions as part of Southern California’s most extreme Halloween experience.

“Halloween Horror Nights” mazes to date include “American Horror Story,” inspired by Ryan Murphy’s critically-acclaimed, Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning television anthology series on the FX network; “The Exorcist: The Possession of Regan MacNeil,” based on the iconic supernatural horror film; “Freddy vs. Jason: Dream Battle,” inspired by New Line Cinema’s 2003 film that brought together the biggest horror icons in history: demented killer Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare on Elm Street) and notorious hockey mask killer Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th); “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Blood Brothers,” which pits guests against the unsavory wrath of manic killer Leatherface and his mentally unhinged brother, Chop Top; “Halloween:  Hell Comes to Haddonfield,” an all-new maze inspired by the second film in the classic “Halloween” horror franchise; and “Krampus: The Christmas Devil,” based on Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures’ Christmas-themed horror film that brings to life the fabled anthropomorphic "half-goat, half-demon" horned creature who terrorizes those devoid of holiday spirit; and “The Walking Dead,” an authentic living representation of AMC’s hit television series that takes the realism of the show to an entirely new level with the permanent attraction.

Fantastic Fest 2016 Second Wave Programming Announcement

Alamo Drafthouse's Fantastic Fest delivers another dose of cinematic decadence with its second wave of programming.  Procured once again from the most curious corners of the genre universe, Fantastic Fest is proud to announce its opening film, Denis Villeneuve's stunning ARRIVAL. ARRIVAL marks Villeneuve's Fantastic Fest debut, which has proved to be worth the wait as his spectacular science fiction feature promises to kick off proceedings in explosive fashion.

It wouldn't be Fantastic Fest without some true heavyweights of world cinema represented and this year is no exception.  Park Chan-Wook, legendary South Korean director of OLDBOY and STOKER, attends the festival for the first time to present the US Premiere of his gorgeous erotic drama THE HANDMAIDEN.  Dutch defiler Paul Verhoevenhas provided what will prove to be one of the most controversial and provocative films of the year with his dark and deadly comedic rape-revenge thriller ELLE, while Paul Schrader delivers his unique brand of pugilistic raw force with his hyper-violent, crime-at-all-costs thriller DOG EAT DOG

Female directors take center stage for three of Fantastic Fest's most hotly anticipated titles this year, firmly shattering the myth that game-changing cinema is gender-biased.  Ana Lily Amirpour follows up her alt-cult sensation A GIRL WALK HOME ALONE AT NIGHT with her sand-blasted, dystopian love story THE BAD BATCH; Maren Ade delivers what will be the most uncomfortable film of the festival, the desert-dry black comedy TONI ERDMANN; and Julia Ducournau's directorial debut, RAW, takes us on a cannibalistic coming-of-age shock ride that resonates long after its stunning finale.

"I'm proud of the creative tension we've asserted with this year's program," said Fantastic Fest founder Tim League.  "Established, award-winning veterans are celebrated on the same stage as first-time filmmakers.  This dynamic speaks to the strong diversity and rich blood of talent that is challenging cinema today.  It's an honor to share their work with our global audience."

One of last year's most memorably chaotic and explosive events returns as Itchy-O lay claim to slay Austin and unleash their mayhem once more.  A blazing, 32-member aural assault from the darkest depths of Colorado, Itchy-O is a wholly immersive, musical experience on a massive scale that is right at home at Fantastic Fest.

Alamo Drafthouse's American Genre Film Archive plays an important role in this year's Fantastic Fest with the inclusion of two films prized from its vaults.  First up is a watershed moment for AGFA and the culmination of years of work: a brand new digital transfer of THE ZODIAC KILLER, a film made with one goal in mind - to capture the real-life Zodiac Killer. Made possible by the 783 lovable perverts who donated to AGFA Kickstarter capaign launched at last year's Fantastic Fest, the World Premiere screening of AGFA's new transfer, and crown jewel from the Something Weird archive, will feature a Q&A with Lisa Petrucci, the incomparable founder of Something Weird!

Screening in conjunction with the release and signing of American Cinematheque's Dennis Bartok's new book, A Thousand Cuts, is a rarely seen 35mm print of the 1968 low-budget alien invasion gem GOKE: BODY SNATCHER FROM HELL.  Courtesy of a print provided by AGFA, director Hajime Sato's delightfully pulpy and deliriously earnest example of Japanese horror creates a remarkable example of what a filmmaker can do with a few bucks, a model airplane and some silly putty.

The Philadelphia Unnamed Film Festival announces full line-up of genre and cult films for exciting inaugural year!

PUFF is thrilled to present 6 feature films and 22 shorts for the 2016 edition of the fest!

The Philadelphia Unnamed Film Festival is proud to announce the lineup for its inaugural year taking place in Philadelphia, PA from October 6th - 9th at CineMug and Adobe Cafe.  PUFF will highlight genre features and shorts from around the world, including supernatural horror WE GO ON, and the Northeast premiere of GUN WOMAN director Kurando Mitsutake's newest feature, KARATE KILL.

"We are extremely excited about our program," says PUFF co-director Madeleine Koestner. "We were amazed by the amount of submissions we received, and it made the selection process very hard on us!  We wish we had time to screen all the films that were submitted to PUFF, but we think we did an excellent job of putting together an interesting lineup of eclectic films by a diverse group of filmmakers."

The festival kicks off with a free screening of short film SMALL TALK by Nicole Solomon on Thursday, October 6th at CineMug.  Immediately following the screening will be the opening night party.

On Friday, October 7th PUFF will begin its feature selection with the British horror/comedy EGOMANIAC, whodunit-slasher film DEAD BODY, and zombie gross-out gore fest NIGHT OF SOMETHING STRANGE.  Friday's program will also include the 30 minute shorts program, The Bizarre Block.  "We asked for bizarre films and we got what we wished for", explains Koestner. "The Bizarre Block includes three polarizing films you would never see at a mainstream film festival.  If you like experimental, odd and disturbing cinema you will definitely want to come out on Friday night."

The Bizarre Block will take place immediately following the North American premiere of Kate Shenton's EGOMANIAC, a witty, gory British comedy about the perils of being a female genre filmmaker in a marketplace that appreciates talking dogs more than good ideas.

Friday night continues with a screening of DEAD BODY, from first time director Bobbin Ramsay and producer Ian Bell.  Shot with the help of crowdfunding last year, DEAD BODY can be described as FRIDAY THE 13TH meets CLUE.  A game amongst a group of young friends spending the night in a cabin in the woods goes wrong when one of them starts murdering the players one by one.  The night concludes with NIGHT OF SOMETHING STRANGE.  Easily the most shocking movie of the PUFF program, this gross-out zombie feature from director Jonathan Straiton comes with a warning: not for those that are easily offended or weak in the stomach.

Saturday, October 8th opens with the PUFF International Oddities Shorts Program.  The block showcases horror, science fiction, and more, featuring RAMIRO from Spain, THE WAY BACK from Ireland, and the sci-fi comedy PRIMITIVE TECHNOLOGY and so much more to satisfy your taste of the weird.

PUFF returns to its feature selection with Tim Reis' BAD BLOOD: THE MOVIE.  Funny, frenetic and colorful, BAD BLOOD is a werewolf movie with an amphibious twist - during the full moon the source of fear isn't wolves, but werefrogs.  We're equally excited to present WE GO ON, directed by Jesse Holland and Andy Mitton, the same talented duo who brought us YELLOWBRICKROAD in 2010.  Another tense tale of psychological dread, WE GO ON stars Clark Freeman as a man whose crippling phobia of death inspires him to take out an ad offering a small fortune to the first person who can prove to him the existence of the afterlife.

"Major theater chains rarely carry independent horror movies anymore, and film festivals are becoming one of the only ways for people to see original movies outside of Netflix and Red Box" explains Co-director Alex Gardner.  "This is why we are thrilled to bring the films like BAD BLOOD and WE GO ON to Philadelphia.  We are also happy with the great mix of subgenres we have to offer at PUFF this year."

The closing feature of PUFF is the Northeast Premiere of Japanese director Kurando Mitsutake's wild new movie with an 80s Canon film aesthetic: KARATE KILL.  Following an incredibly skilled fighter from Japan to Los Angeles to Texas on a mission to rescue his sister from a violent cult, the movie showcases incredible fight choreography while being absolutely over the top from start to finish.  Reuniting the GUN WOMAN director with sexy Japanese star Asami, KARATE KILL will satiate those with an appetite for martial arts and splatter.

PUFF's final event on Sunday, October 9 PUFF will bring the festival back to CineMug, wrapping up the weekend with a night of Philly-made local shorts.

Check the @PhillyUnnamed Twitter account and Official PUFF Facebook for more information on tickets and badges soon.

Horror Anthology THE DARK TAPES captures genre-defying scary tales

Exciting new horror feature, The Dark Tapes by Michael McQuown and Vincent J. Guastini presents a genre-defying mixture of horror, sci-fi, myth, and mystery.  The 98-minute movie features four stories that interlock to create one clever anthology.  It is a film that raises the possibility that ghosts, spirits, creatures, demons and more are real entities in our everyday lives.

I've always had a rational and scientific mind, especially in physics and string-theory.  I wanted to explore how the paranormal could exist in reality while also having a western scientific basis behind them.  Moreover, I've had two transformative experiences in my life. The first was seeing what can be best described as a 'ghost' or 'spirit' not once, but twice in the same night.  The second is commonly called a 'Night Terror'.  To this day, it is the most terrified I have ever been.  Over the years, I've met other people who describe it the same way.  The Dark Tapes is the result of all this," says writer-producer Michael McQuown.

The feature, which is billed as "'V/H/S' meets 'The Twilight Zone'", premiered at the Phoenix International Film Festival in competition for best horror feature and continues to travel the festival circuit, gathering over 20 awards and nominations along the way including:

WINNER - Best Feature - Independent Horror Movie Awards

WINNER - Best Horror Feature - CAL-TEX Horror Festival

WINNER - Best of Show - CAL-TEX Horror Festival

WINNER - Best Ensemble Cast - Los Angeles Independent Film Festival

NOMINEE - Best Feature Film - Fly Film Festival

NOMINEE - Best Feature Film - FantaFestival

Michael McQuown is known for having written the original script of Universal Studio's The Perfect Man, starring Hilary Duff, Chris Noth & Heather Locklear.  McQuown is also the winner of the CableACE Award for Calling The Ghosts on HBO/Cinemax.  The Dark Tapes is his first film.

The Dark Tapes was created, written, directed, filmed and edited by Michael McQuown.  Co-directed by Emmy nominee Vincent J. Guastini, who also created the makeup and practical effects.  Mr. Guastini's credits in the latter department include The Taking of Deborah Logan, Requiem for a Dream, I, Frankenstein and many more.  The film is produced by Michael McQuown, Amon Mahmud, Nicole Odeku, Haldane Morris, and Vincent J. Guastini.

The cast includes seasoned Los Angeles actors: Cortnery Palm (Nicole), Emilia Ares Zoryan (Caitlin), Brittany Underwood (Amanda), David Roundtree (Martin), Jake O'Conner (Ryan), David Hull (Josh), Aral Gibble (Gerry), Shawn Lockie (Karen), Stephen Zimpel (David) and David Banks (Sam).

The Dark Tapes is currently looking for distribution with the intent to adapt the concept as a TV series or as the first in a yearly series of found-footage anthology films.  The film will be released in early 2017.

With the arrival of a mysterious new neighbor, Duncan (Louis Hunter), Jack finds audio recordings and video tapes left behind by his father that lead him to question childhood memories and the very foundation of his identity.  With pressure mounting and sanity crumbling, Jack comes to learn that the idyllic world he has believed in since infancy is in fact a nightmare playground full of lies, deception, violence and murder.

Order HELL TOWN on iTunes

Since the world premiere sponsored by the Austin Horror Society and Alamo Drafthouse, HELL TOWN has made audiences and critics laugh and scream, picking up awards for Best Feature at Colorado Horror-Con, as well as a Best Feature and Best Actress win for Amanda Diebert, with nominations for Best Actor, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography, at the Crimson Scream Horror Film Festival.

Debbie Rochon (Model Hunger, Return to Nuke 'Em High, The Theater Bizarre) headlines as the hostess of the three surviving episodes of "Hell Town", following the melodramatic, small-town and potentially short-lived lives of Krysten Day, Amanda Deibert, Owen Lawless, Ben Windholz, Jennifer Grace and Balderson muse Pleasant Gehman.

HELL TOWN follows the melodramatic antics of high school seniors clashing over love, sex, and betrayal.  In the middle of all the everyday drama of one-sided infatuations, backstabbing bitchiness, bottled-up sexuality, sibling rivalry and general small-town angst, the Letter Jacket Killer is killing students in a variety of sadistic ways.  As the body count rises and the blood pools closer to home, it becomes clear that one of our main characters is the killer.  Everyone, from the prom queen and shirtless jock to the nosey geek and the super bitch, are all suspects in the carnage.

Final Poster for Sci-Fi Action Film THE TIME WAR featuring the late Christopher Lee, Tracey Birdsall and Barry Corbin

Award-winning actors Tracey Birdsall and Barry Corbin are filming THE TIME WAR, writer-director Neil Johnson's long gestating science-fiction thriller that went into development back in 2010. The film features the legendary Christopher Lee (Lord of the Rings, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones) in one of his final screen roles.

Originally written in 1995, THE TIME WAR fixes on the thrilling, entertaining scenario that imagines Adolf Hitler traveling back in time and rewriting history.  "Next imagine you try and stop him and make matters much worse..." Birdsall, who this year stars in Johnson's highly-anticipated Rogue Warrior: Robot Fighter, is a favorite of Neil Johnson.

"Tracey is one of the most versatile and talented actresses of our time.  She's going to blow everyone away with her performance in Rogue Warrior: Robot Fighter, so we wanted to keep the party going - and excitement from the audience to see more of her - by fashioning this follow-up as a real showcase for her."

Johnson is also a long-time fan of acclaimed actor Corbin, whose many credits include The Thorn Birds, No Country for Old Men, Norma Rae and TV hits "Northern Exposure" and "Anger Management".  "This is a man that can do anything - evoke great laughter, spur tears, have you rooting for him - and audiences are going to go nuts for him here.  We've written a fantastic part for Barry."

For Corbin, it's a return to the sci-fi genre.  The Texas-born actor's previous genre efforts include such classics as WarGames and Critters 2 and TV's "The Twilight Zone".  Birdsall and Corbin worked together on Dawn of the Crescent Moon - which snared the coveted Best Ensemble Cast Award at Action on Film Festival, rapidly becoming one of the most reputable independent film festivals in the world.

Filmmaker Johnson was so sure that the film would get made one day that in November of 2010, he paid Sir Christopher Lee to record an opening narration while at Abbey Road studios on other business.  Johnson didn't realize that this would be the last time that he would see the acclaimed actor, who passed in 2015.  "Mr. Lee has killed a number of Nazis during WW2, so it was very apt that the great Nazi Hunter gave his great talent to this wonderfully unique film," said Johnson.  Additional casting to be announced soon.

Outstanding Horror Comedy Short "KILLER FRIENDS" now eligible for Oscar nomination

Horror Comedy Killer Friends by first time filmmaker Zach Noe Towers now eligible for Oscar consideration

Exclusive theatrical release at the Laemmle Theatres Sept 2-8, 2016

Since taking home two Audience Awards at DANCE WITH FILMS including "Run of the Fest" - Killer Friends, the irreverent and provocative dark comedy by newcomer Zach Noe Towers, is scheduled for a week-long release at the Laemmle Theares in North Hollywood, from September 2nd to the 8th

Thanks to this theatrical release opportunity, Killer Friends is now eligible for an Academy Awards (Oscar) nomination.

"I still can't believe my little horror comedy is going to be considered for an Oscar nomination.  Horror is such an over-looked genre, so it feels really great to be recognized in this grand way," says actor-filmmaker, Zach Noe Towers.

The American reference site Dread Central calls Killer Friends "a quirky short to watch out for" and The Final Cut believes it "will make your jaw drop."  The film is about four friends who go on a camping trip, only one of them won't be coming back alive.  The lead character, Scott, is a gay man, played by Towers himself.  It was important for Towers that his protagonist's sexuality wasn't the only driving force of the plot.

"LGBT television and film often fall into this rut of stereotypes where either the leads are afraid of their identity or almost over-embrace it.  I want to tell stories that abolish those old-time cliches and that reach across gender and sexuality to entertain all walks of life," explains Towers.

Starring Zach Noe Towers (Scott), Jenna-Lee Carriero (Jill), Peggy Sinnott (Heather), and Dave Racki (Bryan).  Killer Friends is written, produced, and directed by Zach Noe Towers.  Co-Director: Tina Carbone.  Producers: Tina Carbone, Mark Brosotoff, and Jenna-Lee Carreiro. Cinematography by James Sielaff, Makeup FX by Christina Chapman, Editing by Morgan Pritchard, and Music by Jasha Klebe

ZNT Productions, Zach Noe Tower's company is currently seeking a distribution platform for Killer Friends, as well as investors for Meat Market, his first feature film screenplay.  Another horror-comedy/slasher, Meat Market is about a group of gay guys being hunted down on a Grindr-like app and murdered.  The script is written in the same vein as Scream

Acclaimed Iranian Horror Film, UNDER THE SHADOW to be released in theaters, VOD/On Demand October 7th

The highly-anticipated breakout festival hit UNDER THE SHADOW, which many are already calling the best horror film of 2016, will be hitting theaters and VOD/On Demand October 7th via Vertical Entertainment and XYZ Films.

The Farsi-language Iranian film was directed by Babak Anvari, and stars Narges Rashidi, Avin Manshadi, Bobby Naderi, Ray Haratian,  Hamidreza Djavdan, and Soussan Farrokhnia.

Shideh (Narges Rashidi) and her family live amid the chaos of the Iran-Iraq war, a period known as The War of the Cities.  Accused of subversion by the post-Revolution government and blacklisted from medical college, she falls into a state of malaise.  With Tehran under the constant threat of aerial bombardment, her husband (Bobby Naderi) is drafted and sent to the frontlines by the army, leaving Shideh all alone to protect their young daughter, Dorsa (Avin Manshadi).  Soon after he leaves, a missile hits their apartment building and while failing to explode, a neighbor dies under mysterious circumstances and Dorsa's behavior becomes increasingly erratic.

Shideh finds herself slowly drawn into the ensuing turmoil, struggling to cling onto what is real and what is not.  Searching for answers, she learns from a superstitious neighbor that the cursed missile might have brought with it Djinn - a malevolent Middle-Eastern spirit that travels on the wind.  Convinced that a supernatural force within the building is attempting to possess Dorsa, Shideh has no choice but to confront these forces if she is to save her daughter and herself.

The film made its world premiere earlier this year at Sundance to rave reviews and continued amazing film festival audiences and racking up awards from there.  Lead Narges Rashidi was recognized as one of Variety's "19 Biggest Breakthrough Performances" out of Sundance and the film still boasts an impressive 100% Fresh Rating across the board on Rotten Tomatoes.  It's early success is only a preview of what's to come as it reaches larger audiences this fall.  To keep up to date with the release, follow UNDER THE SHADOW on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/undertheshadowfilm Twitter at https://twitter.com/UTSFilm and Instagram @UnderTheShadowFilm.
